Smart 16v saloon manual - Antrim Ireland

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Yes, Jim did all the hard work of bringing it over from England last year, I must admit it being just down the road made it an attractive proposition, as I need an additional car while my 2.1 is out of comission, means I can sell the Toyota now.

That and, I couldn't see it goto the crusher (it was being considered on a trade in on one of those bloody scrappage schemes). It will do for a while and I'll probably pass it on to another one of us in due course

Will probably go and get it tomorrow sometime, if I can schedule a few free hours away from work....

Ciarán,

trust me, so called stop gap and temporary cars tend to become a LOT blurry about the edges and
suddenly become permanent fixtures in your life! You don't need to ask me why I know this either!!

Went and picked it up yesterday afternoon.

Initial assesment, good.

I've only driven it twice, once home from the sellers house, and then into the city last night to drop Leanne to work. Have been busy today and not had much of a chance to give it a proper going over, but initial problems I noticed are:

Plip not working
Alarm not working
Drivers door lock seized (swapped with passengers today)
Blower not working
Aircon not working (see above)
Immobiliser bypassed
Immobiliser lid broken (show me one that isn't  )
Slight splutter / raspy sound when taking off sometimes (exhaust maybe)
Accumulator totally shot - constantly ticking with any height change or braking.

All relatively minor. Other than that it runs and drives very nicely, the interior is immaculate, and the body is *very* clean.

I was almost tempted to keep it as a spares car for the 2.1, bodywise, but to be honest it would be a shame to break it, its so clean.

So yes, basic, but nice.

It has one of those trailblazer panels on the boot, tempted to keep that regardless, it looks quite good.

Congratulations Ciaran,

I hope you are happy with your new purchase. At least now I know who owns it, and know it has found a good home.

Gives you more time to convince Anne she wants it too

I'll have to try and get down to see you before Mosney or something.

Aye, come on down. I'm should be there most evenings.

You can run an eye over that bandit of Roger's.

I had another go at trying to start it again last night, and had no joy again. Just no Spark.

Combination tried was, Dean's Ingition amp, new crank sensor, new ecu (without keycode). Turns over nicely, but no sparks!!

Has it had a new coilpack and leads at all?

Forgot to mention the new coil pack. Leads haven't been changed as the leads on our cars won't fit that combined coil/distrubutor module. I have changed 2 of the spark plugs because I can't find the rest of mine.

I think if it was firing, even on 2 plugs, it would sound like it was doing something, it should still run, albeit very roughly.

I'll bring down some HT leads, I still have some from the 3 million times I was supplied the wrong ones.
Failing that I now have that 2.0 16V car with a coilpack, which are probably the same.

I suspect the main coil lead, my S1 had exactly the same symptoms when one of the dodgy Halfrauds lead died, an astronomical 8 miles after being fitted...
