Ithink that the 'leitgummi' is the rectangular strip of conductive 'zebra' rubber that is used to replace the plastic printed circuit type original connector used in the display unit. There is an extensive thread on this topic on club-xm.com

I have read about the Zebra repair rubbers on the Planete Citroen forum. It looks like a nice simple and effective repair. But they're not cheap. I'd prefer to try fixing it first for free before buying a Zebra.

How about producing a "Change Over" harness adapter and use a Series 1 display..

The changeover harness employing all the new positions for S1 displays...
