Hi
Can anyone help with a driver-side front electric window mechanism (1-touch button) in good working order -no point buying one that may misbehave like my own (seems the motor is weak in mine, it often stops on the up way and has to be helped).
I can get one for £30 incl p+p from an ebay seller breaking an XM, but I prefer inter-forum help if anybody wants to.
A point I'm not sure of is suitability, it is for my August 1993 (s1.5) 2.1td.
Email me if so (my pm has never worked properly here).
Thanks!
George

Hi Jorgy
S1.5, its a standard winder identical to the others on the S1.5... IE: The one touch IS a seperate box in the door not built in... ITs completely different to the S2 units..
So you need one from a 1989 to 1993 eira of cars....

Hi George
It might be worth looking closely at the window glass movement.
If the glass skews slightly to jam the motor then it may not be weak just overloaded.
There is a hidden small black plastic guide clipped near the top of the rear edge of the window glass.
If badly worn these can give the symptoms you describe.
If so changing the winder will not cure the problem.
Not actually come across a motor that has gone weak.
On Mk1's the motors are common on all winders so just the motor can be swapped.

Check the white nylon clip at the bottom of the glass. When the guide tags break off the window becomes very slow.

Hi all and thanks for your good help.
Seems it's worthwhile to open up and investigate.
Car is low mileage for the motor to have gone weak, but then it sat for 5 years under the sky so may as well find very rusty wires.
Was trying to avoid having to have the door panel off for any lenght of time in case what I found in there was not repairable. But your tips are encouraging, so will just go for it and see my luck. I happen to have some white clips as well -finding them is another story!
cheers
G

Unlikely as S1 are stainless iirc.
I'm confident this will be the bottom clip broken, I've replaced one due to being broken and my passenger window is also slow.

I had a series 1 winder fail on me. The drive unit that links the motor output to the window winder reel had broken.
