Wanted: Fuel Pump for petrol turbo

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Wanted: Fuel Pump for petrol turbo

Post by SteveLP » Sun Dec 12, 2010 5:20 pm

Came home on Friday and the car died on me and coasted to a halt.
Both I and the RAC man tested the car and we both reckoned that it was the fuel pump in the tank.
Electrics to the pump seemed to test OK but no noise coming from the tank motor.

So new one needed. Not sure if they differ for model year though... i need one for a S2 2litre turbo, 1997 with trip computer etc.
I've looked at the citroen service site and it seems to be part "1525 42 Gauge with pump" although on the xm pdf file I have this is also labelled as "Bord Computer" - which I take as meaning it is the one that connects to the trip computer.
So i guess I'm looking for one off an S1 or S2 petrol turbo with trip computer. I am however willing to take another one and do a bit of DIY! ;)

Suggestions and sources gratefully received.

Hi Steve,

I have had a quick look on Service Citroen, its the same part number for both series 1 and series 2. I'll have a rummage to see if I can find the one from the TCT Onyx I broke.

Robert

Edit:

I have found one from a TCT Xantia, but I don't know if it will be compatible with the Xm.

Hi Robert.
Thanks for looking - I'll see if a Xantia one will fit. I'll check the part numbers on Citroen Service.

They look exactly the same to me, the plugs are the same and so are the tops, they are after all feeding the same engine...........

Did it solve your problem, mine dies after a 100 yards but will restart, 2 garages couldnt sort it out and it goes to the 3rd on Friday for diagnostics.
How much did the pump cost you?

Thanks

Hi Brian.
I managed to find a relpacement second-hand pump from another series 2 petrol turbo of similar vintage so removing the old one and refitting the new one was very easy. Half and hour and it was working again. Cost me about £50 (secondhand) but it was worth it because I knew that it was a fully working replacement.

I was a bit unsure of going for a fuel pump off a different model but i assume all petrol versions will be the same.

Are you sure that it is the fuel pump? Has it been tested out of the tank? It could also be the in-line fuel filter has been gunged up with something - that is fairly easy to change although probably hidden by the exhaust pipe!

Cheers
Steve

Hi Brian

The fuel filter is about the size of a coke can and is located on top of the rear subframe on the drivers side just inside of thee rear wheel and is secured by a large rubber strap, if you jack the car up at the back you should be able peer up under and see it.

Would you believe the car is back from its 3rd garage who still cant find a reason for the problem, I asked them to change the in line fuel filter whilst it was there, they couldnt find the one on the car!!? :o, (now ordered one on line as Dean has kindly told me where its mounted),I dont think they even bothered putting it up on a hoist, and as usual greasy handprints around the bonnet and greasy footprints in my passenger footwell.

At least this time nobody started the car and drove onto the hoist after messing about with my hight settings and bent my exhaust as my suspension hasnt risen fully yet :( .

They told me my turbo didnt work and that could be a reason, I told them its been naffed for 3 years and Ive not got a speeding ticket in that time so it can stay naffed  .

A replacement fuel relay I ordered on e bay has shown up in the post so I swapped that over when I got the car home, the garage didnt check that out as they hadnt broke my sticky tape off I use as a telltale on the ECU cover, same for the main connector under the hyd tank, the tank wax seal still intact over the holding bolt, so electrical contact cleaner now ordered, hopefully my fuel filter and cleaner show up tomorrow so I can play with that.
Mentioned all of the above to the mech/tech/mgr who humphed and hawed and didnt charge me...shocking eh! ;)

These things are sent to try us.....its friggin working Ill tell you that.
The saga continues.

Ignition amplifier module? Sits on the side of the battery box. Big plastic thing with a multiplug going into it.
