Door Remote Blip Key Fob
Hi does anyone have a spare door remote key fob that works please.
I have a year 2000 XM Diesel, I have changed the batteries in the fob, the red light works when you press the button but it will not unlock the doors.
Also any idea how to disable ther alarm? Everyt9ime I unlock using the key the alarm goes off, not good for the neighbours.
many thanks
Mark

Hi Mark
I am afraid XM Mk2 plips are not interchangable or reprogrammable.
You need a matched set of plips and receiver.
Citroen prices are around £300 a set.
Some of us have fitted £30 aftermaket sets but it is not a direct fit.
By your model Citroen had moved on with the alarm version and had removed the isolation key under the bonnet.
Under the passenger side of the dash by the central consol you will find an ECU box (120x60x30mm) with two multipin plugs.
Plugs are usually brown and grey. Unplug the grey one and the alarm should be isolated.
Brown plug is the central locking so this should still work.
All this is based on slightly earlier Mk2's so there is a chance it will not work due to Citroen progressive closing of all the loop hole in the alarm system.

Re: Door Remote Blip Key Fob
Ive got an after market kit, it may be worth trying it considering how cheap they are compared to the
dealer alternative which is rather eye watering!

There are a few Mk2s being scrapped on ebay, I think you would get a set much cheaper from there even from a breaker.

Re: Door Remote Blip Key Fob
Hi thanks for the replies.
Should have said car is LHD, 2.5TD Excl.
I have looked for the ECU but cannot find it on what is my drivers side, taken off the shroud around the centre console but nothing that resembles mutiplugs either brown or grey.
Any more advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Mark
That makes it a bit more difficult, on the RHD you just remove the glove box and its sitting there looking at you, its mounted on top of a metal brace, I would think on yours it would be below the instrument panel. If I remember correctly its a box about 4" X 2".

Re: Door Remote Blip Key Fob
Hi Mark
Everything that has been said so far covers UK spec cars.
The french spec for alarms and plips sets was different to the UK RHD spec.
Not sure that my UK workshop manual will cover it either.
Will look out the french owners manual that I have somewhere and see if that sheds any light.
Edit note:
The good news is that I found the french XM handbook first try.
Version for the 1999 model year as well.
The bad news is that my french limits my understanding of the content.
Will now try to find a similar age UK book to do a comparision.
French cars had an option on dead locking fitted to the central locking.
This difference is identified by the Plip.
Plain central locking uses a single button plip.
Dead locking version uses a two button plip.
It would be useful to know which type you have.

Hi Ds21h
Only ever seen one UK XM with that type of Plip set-up.
Still own the car but sent it away on holiday to Petersfield nearly a year ago.
May be a while before I can check it out.
