climate temperature sensor (fan in roof)
Hi all
I suspect the sensor is failing on mine and I'm getting a non-sensical response to the (digital) temperature setting -and it's always too hot (but non-sensical too, thus not thinking of a stuck servo flap as a 1st port of call).
Anybody can help. Even a borrowed one would be great to confirm/discard that this is the problem.
Thanks in advance
George

Re: climate temperature sensor (fan in roof)
Hi George
I have never had one fail but I have had several servo motors do so. Even if it is faulty I would think you should still get cold air if you set the temp to cold, or just try unplugging it.

Re: climate temperature sensor (fan in roof)
Access the sensor and use a multimeter to check its resistance. Verify if it changes when you put your finger on the thermistor.

Re: climate temperature sensor (fan in roof)
Thanks Jan, it seems there will not be need to do this. Peter, u were right, it seems it's just the servo motor: it came back to life and with the glovebox off I observed its operation while playing with the temp, and it's good.
However this means it's likely to have what's described in the "how to" doc in self-help, i.e. sticking and I'd need to open up the little motor and trim as needed. I think what happens is it positions itlsef to "full heat" when starting up the car in the cold morning, then sticks at this extreme and I'm getting fulle heat all day.
I'll get a quote for a new complete black box from Cit anyway, just so I know.
thanks
G

You can take them to bits George but there are several little wheels that are likely to fall out and become unsynchronised, new ones are quite expensive, there must be a few secondhand ones about. You could rig up a little hammer on a pivot with a piece of string into the car so you can hit it each times it sticks

Re: climate temperature sensor (fan in roof)
Going to ask Cit tomorrow.
The problem Peter is that I quite don't know what to do once I open it up. If it's a bad solder, will I see it? If it's the motor's brushes needing triming, will it be easy, or will it take me hours? And will it happen in a year's time again? What if it's smthing else that I can't detect? I'm lucky enough to have had the glovebox open for another reason; really prefer to stick a new one in it and have peace of mind for a few more years.
btw I asked the ebay seller of the Pug 405/406 one ("reduction gear"), he says it's not what I want. Didn't ask details.
However I can't stop thinking all these must be same. There's even one for some other car on ebay, that looks identical. Could these really have small but important internal differences? They're all doing the same thing.
cheers

Re: climate temperature sensor (fan in roof)
There were some on ebay a little while back for about £60.00 or so, I think they were Peugeot ones but they are probably the same, see if you can get the part number. I have never personally repaired one, I have always fitted second hand.

Re: climate temperature sensor (fan in roof)
Thanks Jan, I've seen that one, problem is it's used, like...mine. My car is relatively new (90k miles) so chances are the servo motor is in same or better condition than this one. If this was new, I'd have snapped it without second thought...
At the moment there's no other similar (not to talk of a new one) on the whole uk, french and german ebays!
I'll be at Cit on Tuesday to see their price.
At the moment, I've done all the research anyway -which is what I wanted to avoid
- so I might as well remove and open up mine and see...
cheers
George
