Im trying to get hold of the speedo clock binnacle for a L reg 2.0 TCT Xm Automatic. Obviously has the little screen for the gear selection and it doesn't have a turbo gauge - I thought they did but no it doesn't.
Does anyone have one going spare they wish to sell or know where i might get one?
The car has done 93K miles, so a clock set of around that mileage would be great, but all considered.
Please let me know what you have
Chris.

Hi Chris,
You should be able to transfer the speedomemer part over from a spare speedo unit, and it shoudl be fairly easy to "clock" back to the correct milage as well.
I have done this on a series 2 unit that was faulty, the speedo would constantly read 50.
This would be your best bet if you have to use a diesel, or manual xm clocks.

The problem with the car is the speedo and mileage dont record anything for around 15 miles, after that it all starts to work.
A replacement speedo set was bought but its for a S2 and therefore it has electronic speedo, not cable as per the S1. I think its the speedo drive in the back which has gone.
The cables have been renewed and checked, it does seem odd that it starts to work after so long though.
So my next thing to try is a replacement speedo unit.

Are you sure the speedo drive cable is being driven?

I would be tempted to suspect a damaged tooth on the plastic drive cog under the gearbox speedo drive box.
These drive cogs are colour coded and unique to each model while the drive box comes in 3 standard designs (mechanical, electrical or dual).

Ive not had a look myself, but the car has been into a garage who fitted a new speedo cable which didnt change the problem. They confirmed that the old cable was ok and the new one is working.
I guess if i remove the clocks and and see if the cable is turning?
Id like to get the car here and get the fiddly jobs done, as they seem to be piling up, but its the owners only car. So ill have to get around that somehow.

Try and sell him one of those C5s Chris, and take the Xm in as a trade in

I bet! I'll swop you a Prestige Auto for your estate. I'll even deliver it and leave it full of go go juice

Hmm tempting! Though ive driven a TCT Prestige today (with a retired turbo for the time being) and i still very much enjoyed getting into the 2.1TD estate afterwards.
I thought id take the XM so i could compare S1 vs S2 speedos etc, and the drive as well of course.
Had that particular TCT of been in better fettle it would be a great car, doesnt need too much doing. If he sells it id like it! Its LPG converted too. Yours is very appealing, especially in white!
