cruise control 2.5TD
Hello
Does anyone know if the cruise control lever on a xantia will work on an XM 2.5TD? I rather fancy fitting cruise control, I believe it's just a case of fitting the button and control lever and there are plenty of xantias at my local scrapper, but no XM's 2.5.
Thanks
Jonathan

The control levers are probably the same, they look the same, but Xantia switches won't fit in a XM, even thought they look similar on the surface.

Re: cruise control 2.5TD
Thanks.
I have just read on some random forum that retofitting cruise to a xantia required the control lever and "activation" of the ECU for cruise control, which the author achieved for the modest sum of £90.00 in 2007 from a citroen dealer, including supply of the control lever. That sounds ludicrously cheap. It will be interesting to see whether anything happens on the XM if the switch and control lever are fitted, or is there some additional "acvtivation" of the ECU required.

Re: cruise control 2.5TD
I am considering retro fitting cruise control to my XM. From what I can gather (including John xmexclusive's self help tutorial on club-xm.com) the 2.5TD and the Epic equipped 2.1TD already have the cruise control functionality built in to the injection ECU and it is only necessary to add the switches and wiring (if not already present, eg on 2.1TDs).
If anyone is interested I have a translated French tutorial with pictures showing cruise control addition to a Xantia 2.1TD.

Re: cruise control 2.5TD
Because of the number of items which can prevent the electrical side of the cruise working I would not recommend a mix and match system.
A good while ago I tried Pug 406 switches but found they were different from the XM ones.
All XM cruise switches are the same so look for an exclusive XM being scrapped or ask in the wants.

Job done and works a treat!kenhall wrote:I am considering retro fitting cruise control to my XM. I used the two cruise control switches obtained from a breaking 2.5TD ex ebay as a start. My 2.1TD did not have the cruise control wiring present so had to be done from scratch. The hardest part is getting a four core cable from the steering column stalk switch to the ECU in the engine compartment. There is just no easy access through the bulkhead so I ended up taking the cable through the passenger side floor (alongside a chassis member), under the carpet to behind the radio console and then to the steering column. I added a SPCO relay to the brake pedal switch circuit to give a cruise cut off signal (much cheaper than buying a new double contact brake pedal switch). To complete the installation I plan to add another cut off switch to the clutch pedal.

Hi Ken
That is a superb bit of work, well done.
I have never seen any documentation that the EPIC fitted 2.1 XM could run electronic cruise.
So had to guess that LUCAS with a later design and competing ECU would not leave out any of the features already in the BOSCH ECU.
Seems it works exactly the same. On next start up after fitting ECU sees and enables cruise.
I think stealers used to charge £250 to fit the 2.5 with 2 switches and turn the ignition on once.
Maybe this EPIC ECU content find is worth reporting on FCF.

Good work Ken.
I've only looked at one Epic with cruise and it still used the accelerator pot iirc, but obviously no need to as the pump is electrically controlled.

Hi Jonathon
I seem to recall the chap I bought my lock set off having a cruise control stalk for sale, his was a 1995 2.5TD like mine, I'll send him an email see if he's still got it.
