Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Headlamp washer covers...

Post by davetherave » Tue May 31, 2011 4:51 pm

After buying an estate with missing washer covers it occured to me that these parts were a bit of a bugger to get hold of.
Therefore I set about remanafacturing them.
Here are the pictures...

Im thinking £20 for a pair, in grey primer, but colour may become available in the near future, silver will be the first as I have a can of it.

Ill be bringing them with me to the forthcoming Ds rally and the national + possibly the CXM for inspection/ purchase.
If people are interested let me know so I know how many to make!

I have only made one and a half moulds so far as im waiting for some more product to finish the second, thats why only one side is shown in the pictures!

Well done that man!

They look great. One suggestion though, can you change the colour of the plastic to match VSX non painted bumper specs?

I had thought of it, but it is more expensive to make them black, currently they come out white.
so I decided that painting afterwards would be best.

Also each one comes out with slight imperfections, so paint and sanding is required on each one.
Hopefully ill paint one silver tommorow to see what its like.

Pencil me in for a pair. Grey primer ok for me as I will be getting some aerosols made up to touch up some bumper scuffs.
I take Robert's point re the matt black VSX ones it would appear these get their finish from the mould . Do the painted ones start as matt base or are they from a smooth mould I wonder. Are they in ABS and with secure fastenings?

I think re creating the matt black effect would be something that has to be done after the molding.
The mold produces smooth white covers.
It would be possible to create a mould with a matt cover but I think it would be cost prohibitive.

They are cast in a 2 part ployurethane, and have been tested for fit on my car.

A pair for me please, don't mind the color as I'll paint them -therefore would go for the cheapest way.

PM me as soon as you have a pair for me please!

Thanks

If anyone has any ideas for other bits to be reproduced, do let me know!

Similar size to the covers would be ideal, but if demand was high I could do bigger items.

Hi Dave

The next bit down on the headlamp washers that the cover clips onto.
It is a flat carrier plate with a thin round guide rod on one end.
These are regularly found to be broken.

John, I have had a look at the bit you talk of, but due to the internal holes for the water passage,
it would be much more difficult to replicate i think.

Jorgy, your covers are ready, and here's the pictures of them...
