Cheap 2.1 auto estate 'R' reg

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

On Autotrader

190,000 miles, 5 Door Estate,'bronze' but looks black, grey velour interior good (one chewed rear headrest), bodywork OK, some minor dents but no rust. Cosmetic write off in 2003 but fully repaired (new bonnet) and DVLA inspected. Has been very reliable, steering pump now rattling (only at startup) and battery may need replacing. Auto gearbox sometimes doesn't drop back to first but drives fine with manual gearshifts. 4 good tyres, electric seats, sunroof, windows, Radio/cassette ABS, hydractive suspension, all MOTs, FSH. MOT to Dec 09 but only taxed to end of May. Needs some attention but exceptionally comfortable, enormous load carrier for the money!. £250 ono.

This is from a woman who lives in cornwall, she used to be on the old site i think, it was advertised on FCF for a while and then it eventualy sold on there too, seems the new owner, after having the car but a few short weeks is shifting it on, shame as the auto box will be easily sorted..........

Dean, are you suggesting it's a simple adjustment, or easy for someone who's used to
hoiking engines out of Xm's and has a spare autobox on the floor?

:D , no the valve block is easy to get at and change, i would rate it as harder to do than a service but far easier than a cam belt change (when they go right), it is just unbolt lift out put the new one in and bolt it in place, job done! you will get a valve block from the breakers without too much hassle, unless you have one lying around spare somewhere  :D
Just depends on the overal condition of the car really i guess

Hi Dean

The car looks quite nice in the pictures especially the interior - then they always do. I didn't realise you could work on those gearboxes. The only problem is that being an 'R' reg it will have the dreaded EPIC pump and no glove box! Even so, I'm tempted. :P

Tempted by an auto Peter? mind you at the right price if nothing else you could get some spares from it.........just seen its an R plater, may well have the Hp20 auto adaptive box which makes it a pain because being electronicaly controlled you will need a Lexia or whatever they are to get it all working again even if you physicaly correct the fault it still wont go untill its been plugged in, of course if it IS this box the owner may just be driving in snow mode if its missing out first gear, dont know what to make of things untill you've had a drive yourself though really.

I wonder if the 'cosmetic writeoff' was a strut top letting go!! :?

I think the clever 4hp20 box is brilliant on the Xantia V6 and
it's certainly changed my negative attitude to ALL auto boxes...

Not a lot of money for a R plater but a lot of miles and significant issues!

I just had a look at the piccies, cant see any snow or sport buttons around the gear lever so it must be the HP18 box, false alarm :D

Yeah the 20 is a lot smarter than the dumb old hydromechanicle 18 but it's actualy a good box at heart it just needs a little tlc if it hasnt been well looked after, i always thought that changing up and down at the same speed under normal light throttle driving was normal for this box, it isnt! mine now changes down at around 5mph lower than it changes up, and it will hold gears down to 1500rpm if you are gentle with the right foot.
