V6 Air-Con Compressor

Having had a major leak from an air-con pipe repaired at some expense, it now appears that the compressor itself is shot - leaking from various seals. Although the current weather suggests there is no urgency (perhaps getting the heated seats working would be a better idea :) ) I am trying to get this car as good as it can be. Therefore I am in need of a replacement air-con compressor for an October 94, V6, 12 Valve XM.

Any ideas/help will be appreciated.

Don't know if u r interested in a new one, but seem to remember on a recent visit on ebay that this compressor appears to be the same as used on a 1.6 petrol C4...

1994 - will that be an r12 setup or r134a setup??
They changed the system around this time... The compresor will or should have a lable on it to say what gas is used... Useually the r12 compressors have the two pipes screwed onto the compressor individually and the r134a is connected by a plate and single m8 allen bolt...ive got a few r12 compressors i think which are all okay...

Thanks for the help so far.

The system is an r134a set-up - I don't know if that is going to make the task of finding one easier or harder.

Thanks again

Much much easyer... Any from a xantia, 406, c5 etc should do the job.... The pully will be a 6 ridge but thats perfectly fine for a 5 ridge belt...

Rob, I have a r134a compressor from a 2.1td of the same vintage, model number 1106F. If it is any use you can have it for the postage,about£9. I have no idea if it works or not, it came on an engine I bought. Kit

Thanks for the offer, Kit, it is appreciated. At the moment I am going to try and acquire a known good, or new compressor. Attached are a couple of pics of the offending article in place - unless I have got it completely wrong which is quite possible as my personal spannering never progressed much beyond my Renault 4s from long, long ago

The compressor carries the number: GD7VAA

Why not just strip the one you have and replace the seals in it?

That IS a very common R134a compressor, found on most if not all later Pugs and Citroens from 1995..

They are a common part, so a DERV one or a Two Litre Petrol one or a HDi one should do the job for you..

Its not often those single body compressors give problems, its useually the one which has the middle halfs crossed that useually leak.

As I said above the later compressors will have a 6 RIDGE Pully on them, this will not matter for the 5 ridge belt, you'll just have one section sticking out which wont matter.

Just for information, I fitted a V6 5 ridge Compressor to a W reg Xantia HDi, and swapped the Aux belt for a 5 ridge, it fitted perfectly...

I pulled a working one off a car earlier this year -- need to check what type it is - I'll let you know later.
