Wanted:- Corner trim below windscreen

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Wanted:- Corner trim below windscreen

Post by stevephotoman125 » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:23 pm

Hi can anyone help me, a piece of my trim has vanished on my journey home, although it looks like it was originally bolted in place. I have a show to go to next weekend :(

These aren't bolted on, they just clip on with two plastic lugs gripping at the lower edge undercut
and are prised off from the top edge. Usually the lugs get broken off when the scuttle trim needs
removal to access the wiper motor or brake valve.I'll see if there's a decent one available on one
of the cars I'm going to shift shortly but can't make promises as I don't know if any loose spares!!

Hi Steve,
I see this is from a MK1 (As the windscreen scuttle on yours is-not colour coded) so your after a natural Black plastic type as there is a slight difference in the profile between the S1/1.5's and S2 but all S2's are colour coded anyway !

There only clipped on too, also note (When removing them) most folk state its best to lift/prise them upwards from there upper edge clipping points (Adjacent to the windscreen scuttle) rather than the lower edge (Adjacent to the front wing) due the very fragile lug's on the lower edge which tend to break off if tried from lower clipping point !

You tend to find a lot of XM's have these 'wing cap/covers' stuck on anyway when the lug's have been broken off, I've used clear silicon on my VSX so that if you need to remove them at a later date you can easy cut thro' the silicon without too much trouble anything else IMHO would be far to strong !

I don't think I have one (But I'll have a look, if I have I'll get back to you) but I would think the best persons to try maybe Robert Smart, Dieselman (Will) or citroenxm (Paul) as they tend to have more S1/1.5 spares available, but I'm sure they'll come along with one before the day's out !

EDIT :- I see Andrew beat me to submit a post prior to mine (Whilst typing mine up), so hopefully he may have one (Do you still want me to see if I have one) ?

:)

Ive found one in excellent outward condition off an L plater BUT 2 of the 3 lower undercut securing plastic lugs have snapped off seeing as they're made of licorich so it'd need silicone to secure it!
yours for the cost of a jiffy and postage?

I've found on the S1's that as long as you've got one clip that'll locate on the scuttle and you put a self tap screw through the hole in the end it'll be fine.

I did that on my grey 24v and it was fine for 4 years.

Cheers David that's useful to know: I'm pretty sure the upper edge is quite a tight fit and it doesn't need
much to hold it all in place - there's no strain on it apart from when the car get's washed or it's not located
properly and fouls the mirror!

Incidentally, I'm likely to be scrapping a gold 2.0Si manual saloon if there's any bodywork items you're specifically after.
I'll need to check which parts my gold v6 needs before making any promises if you do though!! Of course the 2.0i could
be available complete if you wanted a matching bookend with yours! lol
