As title listing (T880 JBH) spotted on E-BAY Classified Ad. £850 (or make an offer) tidy looking but being a late model VSX (Albeit having full climate) it won't have the rear passenger feed-pipe ducts to the 'B' posts and no headlamp jet wash !

But does have the ghastly 'Wall-paper type' velour seating

Well that's a couple less things to cause grief!

I seem to be the one swimming against the tide because I much prefer non-leather upholstery.

I have contacted this seller and asked for more information about the car as it could be of interest to me. It is a very brief advert, isn't it?

You're not a lone voice, I have been treking this lonely path for a good many years myself now!
Hot in summer and cold in winter leather seats in a plastic PVC styley sucks!

Hi Rob, I think the velour is probably the best all rounder, its just that I really hate the later S2 models with the 'Wall-paper design' velour upholstery , sorry I don't know what the official name for it , (if I did, I'd probably have gone to the trouble of finding out)

I think the S2 VSX models with the 'Cadiz Velour' was just right, nice and neutral or even the 'Valencia Velour' as fitted to the S2 SX models was better than 'Wall-paper Design' !

Anyhow obviously I see your lurking to get another Green blooded vehicle as I see you made a comment on the BXC for a TZD I posted up :-
ragger wrote:That is odd. I looked at the "other one", and it certainly seemed like a viable proposition in comparison to Graham's comments above. It may be that a County Durham location is too far for a lot of people darn sarth to venture.

The above from THIS BXC thread (for ref.) I take it that when you referred to the 'Other one' as being THIS ONE ?

So as this XM has only one previous owner and reasonable mileage hopefully it should have some service history + old MOT's to prove it maybe a decent motor ?

I also think the after-market 'Wolf-race' alloy's suit the vehicle too, having a centre hub-cap too = no problems getting them balanced up !

So Rob, if it all checks out okay after an appraisal, could this a case of make your mind up time ?

Will it be a 'BX or an XM' :?

I think the alloys look dreadful, and like you Richard had issues with the seat upholstery, but actually don't mind it now that I have had a couple of cars with that pattern.

Robert, The wheels can be easily changed back to O/E steel+trims or alloy's, but the interior :?

That's right. And I think it was probably a bargain at the selling price.

With regard to a car change, my problem is restlessness. I have an excellent Saab that I use for longer journeys that does everything I want it do; I really have to try hard to find fault with it. In the end it isn' a Citroen, and while I do have 2CV sitting in the garage waiting for the rain to stop (it might as well be on SORN  ), I do miss my bigger Citroens. I could also do to free up a slice of cash (couldn't we all?) as being on a pension with two girls at university this last year has been crippling.

So, the plan is to look for the best XM (or possibly BX) I can find, at a bargain price. Ideally, I really, really want the wobbly alloys, and I know there is a 2.1 at Savoy Garage with them on but having driven a manual 2.1, I'm not sure I could live long term with the performance, or lack of. While diesel economy would be great, I'm not a heavy footed driver these days as the Saab has returned 33mpg over the last 4000 or so miles.

As I write this, I'm beginning to see why my wife just rolls her eyes at me whenever I try to talk about cars with her.

I have a particular preference for leather in my XM's.
Nothing to do with the appearance.
Cloth or suede grips when you swivel in and out the car, leather lets you glide over it.
With the wrong type of back problems the grip can cause pain and ongoing discomfort.
So the sets of leather move to any new long term cars and the cloth gets junked.
Think the suede in the blue one coming from Savoy will change to black leather fairly quickly.
Even I realise that the Tan leather would look odd in a blue XM, not sure it suited the green one it came out of.

Having owned two 2.1td manuals I haven't an issue with performance of the xm 2.1. The six points for 93mph (i had slowed from licence losing territory) may also demonstrate its poke.
