there is a speedo cable available, but I'm not entirely sure if it is right. It looks a little short. the part number is 96073325 , is this right?

If it is an XM one Russ then it'll be the bottom half - the bit from the gearbox to the speed sensor... The easy one!

I guess you want the top half? The difficult one!

There is a also difference between early and later series one cars Russ due to the positioning of the speed sensor. Regards, Matthew T.

Hi chaps, yes I believe it's either LHD, or the bottom section. It is on eBay, and is quite short, far too short for the top part. As we all know that goes round the houses in side the dash.
Drat thought I'd got one then!!

Just a thought, does anyone have a trashed top cable lying around. Speedy cables do new ones, but they insist on having the old one as comparison for some reason. and with the nightmare of replacing the knackered cable, the tip is to tie the new one to the old one and pull through, isn't it?

If anyone does, I would be interested. annoying speedy cables don't keep a record of the specs.

If you pull through a long enough strong piece of flexible wire or string that will allow you to remove the old cable Russ and enable any matching up required and then provide a draw for the new cable. With regards, Matthew T.

Hi Russ, having checked the CSW and submitted the p/n for order, it returned a price of £48. This applies to most items listed as NFP, and i assume it's due either the part still exists in some dealer/warehouse somewhere or Citroen suppliers can still provide on request. Might be worth a go at a dealer or two armed with all the info.

I might try that then Robert, thanks. last time I visited our dealer for a dipstick, most XM parts were not available. However I didn't have the part number which I'm sure will help.

I wonder if it might be worth having Speedycables make a batch of these cables. Due to the route and tight bends they're not the most reliable item on the car...

That could be considered, OR a conversion to elecronic speedo.. mirafioriman over on FCF has sucesfully converted his Xantia D from mechanical speedo to Electronic....

Or, as you say Jim submit an Enqurey for a batch of them to be put in a stock for the future ..
