Yet another 2.1td manual

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

  There is nothing wrong with an EPIC Paul.. They're wonderful :D

By the time you've done a Bosch conversion you could have rebuilt and fixed the EPIC in a quarter of the time ;)

Hear hear, Jim! Nowt wrong with the Epic - mine has 200K+ and all it has needed are some new O rings and a stop plunger - eminently fixable as long as you stay away from veg oil.

Glad there is some love for the EPIC, my new 2.1td is EPIC (in both definitions!) and I was starting to worry that it was going to implode as soon as the engine was next run :D

I understand the issues with the pump and the german unit is engineered in a better fashion, but the EPIC is pretty good too, and serviceable which it the main thing.

If we are concerned by something like the pump being unreliable, we really ought to change to steel springs and damper units  yep, I just said that! :D

Noo Imp.. Theres one little detail difference...

The suspension is french... and has been in production since 1954...

Lucas?? Who? Where are they now?? What happend? Oh hang on, it was british.. Like all the british car makes.. I know BAD as it sounds but lets be perfectly Honest! If UK cars really WERE that good.. why arent they still in production now??? :!: :?: :?:

You are right, the suspension is beautifully engineered and far far ahead of it's time, even now. It's like having aircraft components holding the car up and pointing it round corners.

The frustrating thing with british cars, was that fantastic engineering skill was applied and then wasted by poor management, appalling build quality, and a lazy workforce.

My namesake was a case in point, compared to all the other cars small cars available at the time, it was waaaaay ahead of it's time and really should have been a winner. But changes in laws (US headlight height causing positive camber) and penny pinching (water pump seals, poor block castings and cheap components) meant that the car became a joke.

I still feel that british engineering is the best in the world (im a bit biased there!) people come from all around the world to study engineering in the UK. One of the most frustrating bits for me is that the term 'engineer' is abused as it is here, nearly every other country has it protected to ensure that it is not used to create trust in cheap and unskilled labour.

rant over :D

Oh Yes, the Imp Was FAR better then a Mini by all accounts..

Im not sure about the design team for BL though... Everything was just sooooo ugly.. All Agro, Princess, Marina,

Now what were nice was Humber Super Snipes and Imperials, and Humber Scepte (Arrow Cars) a much better looking Hunter, and Singer stuff!
