1997 XM SX For Sale (My car)

Hi,

I've been a long time reader of the former (or rather, 'lurker') and, rather sadly, my first post is to advertise the car for sale!

It's on ebay here and is a great motor. Not a show winner, but a good run around...

Been in the family 10 years (although we're a family not notorious for aesthetic perfection).

Any questions or info, pop me through an email or a PM. Be good to see the car go to an appreciative and enthusiastic owner.

Hi and welcome to the forum Lawrie,

I'd just spotted your XM (R688 GFR) as I was doing my daily E-bay listing check (Then going place a F/S spot up) but its already here !

It's honestly described and and fairly priced so hopefully you may get a reasonably quick sale !

The only worrying thing I'd say/ask, have you checked the LHM tank level ?

As this may be the problem for the 'Blinking Stop lamp' (As you go around corners) which you've mentioned and may just need topping up with LHM !

However this then beg's the question if the the LHM tank needs topping up and presumably the LHM was @ the correct level once, if so where's the LHM gone (If there's no obvious leaks) ?

As you state that the suspension is in GWO, that should then eliminate a source where LHM can 'Rob the tank' if there's no obvious LHM fluid leaks, (if the spheres are 'fubered' LHM can get past the Neoprene membrane and just fills up the space which the Nitrogen should take up) !

Also a photo of both front suspension 'Strut tops' (Top side and underside if possible) to show potential buyers of there condition goes a long way to help a sale being achieved quicker ;)

Good luck with the sale and all the best with the 'MB' your replacing the XM with !

:)

Thanks for this. I will check the lhm tank today and report back!

I've never done anything to the car, my opinion was that we would run it into the ground for a year, which we've done but it's time for her to go now.

As you guys are experts and there are inevitably 'problems' which I am yet to see or understand, I'm more than willing to sell the car to one of you a good deal cheaper should you want it. It has a lot of sentimental value to the family you see.

I have just received a scrap offer for the car and updated the listing. As I will no longer have the car insured (replacing it with the new one) I will need to get rid of it this week (after Thursday) or early next week and so it's for sale at a bargain basement price.

Apologies for the large number of posts I would just like to see it go to someone who would value it. I appreciate how annoying it can be when someone who doesn't contribute an awful lot continues to try and flog their car!

Stop lamp flashing could be oil or coiolant too if you don't have a dot matrix displayit is difficult to catch the other lights when its very intermittent.

Hmm if I had somewhere to offroad it for a while I'd probably take it on if nothing else my VSX needs a few bits (but just got MOT :-))

Hope it doesn;t go for scrap.

regards

You just never know how a promising car will end up and a few hundred quid is just a few hundred quid. The cost of a night out on the town, so :?:

This is now 'my car'!
I bought it back in April, presumeably from the person who you sold it to.
It's had quite a bit of work to bring it back to a reasonable condition, but it's OK now. All suspension spheres had to be replaced and I have treated it to a full service (it needed it - the auto gearbox oil came out like sludge), all done at Pleiades. Also replaced the back two sections of the exhaust - someone had welded the middle section to the catalytic converter (!). It rides smoothly now and changes gear a lot slicker than it used to. The hydropneumatic red light has now gone out, as the LHM was also replaced and filled to the appropriate level.
It has successfully 'raided' the west coast of Ireland with the 2CVGB Bathtubs Hair Aid, towing a trailer tent with absolutely no problems.
R668 GFR has also acquired the nickname 'The Gaffer'.

Brilliant to hear that what might have ended up "binned" has been saved and is being looks after!

Welcome to the forum. A great place to be.
