Did you have the gearbox done, what was amiss with it, has it broken again yet (only joking !). I do miss my V6's, did you use my engine in a car or did it get used for parts ?

The gearbox has been repaired Richard although I did have a few subsequent issues and if you have a few hours you could pick up my other thread. I still have your engine and box although I have borrowed a few minor parts! With regards, Matthew T.

I have changed the title of the thread to something more appropriate and here are some photos to show the welding required after some initial 'cleaning down'! Advice for assistance with repairs has been obtained from my local garage, who pointed out that the front nearside cill and wheel arch underside adjacent had been previously welded and patched. I had more major work required on the Poland car and compared to what Will has taken on I guess it is quite small bean. With regards, Matthew T.

And the rear offside, which is possibly the worst area!

Hi All,

The cill welding is now in progress with a little more work than expected and it has also been necessary to give some serious thought to the future of this car. I have somewhat reluctantly concluded that I must find another enthusiast to take her on and complete the restoration, which will mainly comprise preparing and repainting of the cills where repaired and other tidying up of the bodywork, depending on the final effect desired.

The problem for me is that I have several other cars and, while I could not resist saving this late S1 top spec low mileage example, resources are currently very tight and I must recoup something of the time and expenditure invested. It seemed worth making an initial post to canvass any interest before properly advertising the car and I wonder how much it is worth?

I can confirm that the mileage is around 73,500 and the engine starts on the button and is very smooth and quiet and pulls like a train! The current registration is a 'personal' number from the previous owner and it was my intention to reinstate the original 'K' plate which I understand costs around £50. The car has all the electrical goodies imaginable, including heated seats and adjustable mirrors and there is also cruise control. All the electrics work and including the sunroof and front seats and adjustable armrest, although the driver side window is a little slow and I am unsure about operation of all the heated seats.

In brief summary of the main work carried out to date:
- New starter motor installed.
- Four replacement part worn Michelin tyres fitted.
- Autobox professionally rebuilt and removed and refitted by me, with other related tasks including replacement of vital fluids.
- Six suspension spheres and accumulator sphere replaced where necessary and fitted with valves and recharged.
- Cill repairs in progress as mentioned above.

The car should be available later this/early next month and will be sold with a full MoT and is located in Aylsham, North Norfolk.

I also attach further recent exterior and interior photos and any questions please PM or email me.

With regards,

Matthew T.

Thanks Paul and with the gearbox and welding I really need to be getting at least 2K just to break even, and that is without my time! Hopefully something around £2,500 might not be too crazy!! With regards, Matthew T.

Not a bad figure. I don't really know what early 12v v6 are valued at now.. Most for sale are S2 cars.. Given the milage and gearbox work it sound like a good price.
