Didital aircon panel

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Hi Norman

Thanks for the info. So two questions

1. Can you point me in the direction of the correct relays - I presume that these are somewhere under the fuse box?

2. Also what does the bitron box look like? location?

The aircon panel does look dodgy to me - I think I'll also have a go at changing this too anyway.

Cheers - thanks for the advise

Tony

Hi Tony,
The Three relays are the three on the right hand side by the battery, and the bitron box is just above the accellerator pedal behind the trim which is held up by three screws and a push in clip, It is black in colour its a pig to release the single screw moving the drivers seat back as far as it will go and a torch to see what you are doing is a good idea.
The way i discovered what was wrong was by looking at the circuit diagram and because the fans did not run either from the temp sensor or when the air con was switched on either the fans were defective but as they are on separate fuses F3 and F4 and the bitron box on F23 swapping the relay about made no difference and puling F23 made me loose all the radio channels (had to re-tune the radio) the feed from the digital panel to turn on the two fans didn't, the only thing left was the bitron box. :D

Hi All

Still looking for a climate panel. I contacted an ebay seller in Derbyshire who was scrapping a 2.5 exclusive and had a climate panel (which they said was working), but they wanted £50 + p&p. This did seem disproportionate for a 14year old car part, plus the seller was fairly blunt to the point of rudeness.

However the climate is stuck on in our XM at a fairly fast speed that's going to drive us nuts soon. So anyone else here got one or know where I can get one for a slightly lesser price?

Your help will be appreciated.

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony

I think I have one I may want to part with, could do it for £30+post (have plenty of fine packaging), does this sound any better than the £50?

First have to find it though and then try it on my car.

But reading the thread I'm slighty confused, is it the internal fan u r refering to, or the engine fans that go full speed?

Are u sure the climate panel is the culprit? Is it not that when the transistors of the interior fan go bad then it turns at full speed? (Not that I know of, but I seem to have read this elsewhere)

Let me know.

Hi Jorgy

Definitely interested, price is fine. Please mail me at debbie dot gordon at yahoo dot co dot uk. If you have the bitron AC/temp control box too then I'd be interested in that also.

Cheers

I would dare guess the panel seldom develops a fault. The aircon ECU is plugged in to the control panel. Could be a poor connection.
More probably it is the under bonnet fuse box or relay 821 or 848.

Oh, BTW, the system has only 2 relays. 821 is the so-called aircon additional relay and 848 the engine running relay. The former is on the slam panel and the latter above the fuses under the instrument panel, a pig to get access to. Of course there is also the cut off relay 822, but that one is of no concern in your case.

Hi Tony

Have now checked the spare S2 climate panel I have, on my car, and it works fine on absolutely all controls. Only thing I noticed is the fan doesn't make a difference at speeds 5 and 6 (it escalates correctly from 1-4 ,then no difference on 5 and 6, then gives 100% at 7), but my own panel does exactly the same so it looks like there's a problem elsewhere on my car and not on the panel.

Other detail, I couldn't check if 2 of the 3 light bulbs that lit it are ok or cooked, as I tested in strong daylight. The primary (middle) one is certainly okay as it lights the temp lcd. All 3 bulbs are present on the panel. You can get these bulbs from Cit -I discovered some time ago that on my panel the 2 that light up the buttons were burnt, and with new bulbs I got a new experience at night!-.

So, if u still interested for it, pm me to give me the OK and I'll pack it safely and post it registered. I haven't checked postage yet. Is Paypal ok with u?

cheers
George
ps. Unfortunately I don't have a bitron box.
