Citroen v6 exclusive auto 66k year 2000. Take a look

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Citroen v6 exclusive auto 66k year 2000. Take a look

Post by nosmokenopoke » Sat Feb 04, 2017 3:39 am

So where so I start.......

First of all I want to get a few things straight with a few jealous soles on here. Please keep your obnoxious comments to yourself and if you feel like you need to share the link which I put up when I bought this car for £20 then please do. Also when your posting it up remember how sad you are and it's easy being a keyboard warrior.

So moving on...

I bought this 2000 w'reg citroen xm exclusive auto phase 2 with 66500 miles on back late last year.
I found the car parked on a driveway of a manor house in stonehouse Gloucestershire.
I pass this house when walking my dogs down the meadows.
The house in question was up for sale so I rang the estate agents and asked them to pass my number on to the owner as I was keen to know if they wanted to sell the xm.
I can't remember rightly buy I think the weekend has passed and I received a call back from the estate agents saying "Janet" the owner has said for me to pop around anytime this week. So obviously I jumped at the chance and went around the same day.

Once I arrived at the manor I knocked the door and was greated by Janet who turns out to be a very friendly lady. I asked her if the car was for sale and she said, take it away your be doing me a favour as I have to move in six  weeks due to the manor being sold.
I sat in the garden with her while I had jump leads on the battery charging the xm up as it's been sat for 4 or 5 years under trees.
She told me her husband was in love with the car and he saved his money up and bought it brand new from my local town citroen centre.

He was a entrepreneur she had told me. He made vessels for the oil industry. After a few tears and a long story about her husband I went to the car and it started first time.
Janet started to cry and ask me to take care of the car and please put it back on the road for her husband. I promised her I would and I would take care of the car.
I asked her again how much the car was and she told me to take it.. I couldn't for free. I asked if she drank and she said she loved a glass of bulmers. I insisted I would give her £20 and I happened to have a pint bottle of bulmers in my work van. (Cider drinker too).
She cried once more and I told her please take something from me as it's my duty to give you something. She accepted.

So if your still here were getting close..

I took the car straight to my garage premises and parked it under a cover port for a few months while I had other work on.

So a new battery later. New lhm fluid and some tryes I put it straight in for a mot. The car went straight through and I arrived at the garage with 12 months mot. The only advisory is both under sills corroded. But I can assure you now there is no holes nor 1 plate of welding anywhere. Your welcome to take a in depth look.  The only reason for the advisory the garage said is because where it's been sat the original undercoat/body sealer has come away from the inner sills due to it being sat and went brittle. All it needs on them is taking it off and clean them up and a fresh coat of sealer and they will last year's.

As for the car bodywork. The rear quarter panels were exposed to the sun while it was sat on the drive and have slight blemishes through the paint. To make nice again both bumpers would want re painting and the quarters. That would make the car very clean or you could just leave them and remember it's extremely old now.

The interior apart from the wear on drivers seat bolster is in extremely good condition. The floor carpets are nothing but new condition. They have had two citroen mats over the top so the carpet has never seen the daylight. Even the rubber foot sole on drivers side carpet is like brand new.
Janet said they never had children and no one ever sat in the rear of the car. And she is right. The seats are like new. All heated seats front and rear work faster and hotter then my range rover sport 2010.

The car has the original stearo but I do not have the code for it. Citreon should be able to source it.

The only thing I can fault on the inside of the car is that there Are sticky pads on both Front door cards which looks like they have Been glued on. I've tried getting this off but it's ruined the panels. I have spare ones to go with the car. I don't know why these were put on.

The windows don't work. I've never looked into it as I've not had the time. But again I have 4 window regulators that all work. I have been told to check the switches where it's been sat but never got around to cleaning or checking them.

Both front seats are electric and all work. It has a suspension sport button and that all works. It has a few options for the shift pattern for the auto box and they also all work.

It is a sunroof model and I can assure you it does not leak and works perfectly.

It still has the original wiring loom to the heater box which so I've read is rare as they burnt out.

I have had new oil and filter done on her when I mot it. It does need a engine tune up. I'm sure it's got a misfire every now and then. I have to be honest I didn't change the spark plugs.
I've also fitted brand new brake pads front and rear and also freed up and copper slip the calipers as a few were seized but all working and fixed prior to mot. Also greased up all suspension pipes for protection.

It does ride a little hard on rear suspension. Could be spheres but also been told it may need a lhm re bleed. Either way I also have two working spheres from another xm I have.

The back box is the only thing that had corrosion on. It does need a repair so I taken it off and it's never left the boot. I've had other things taking up my time.

I never got the car with any service books but I did get the manuals and booklets but for the love of me I can't find them. If I do then obviously they will come with the car. I am also sure that the Thomson citroen dealer would confirm the car and possibly give some history on her.

All mileage checks out perfect on the dvla mot history check. I have no reason to believe this not to be true. Like I said it's been owned since new by the same owner.  The cars interior alone stands it's ground.

So it's got around 9 months mot I think now.
I was driving it every day on my trade plates. I think I've covered just under 1k and it's not never started or let me down.

So how much is it. I honestly don't know. I was hoping that the decent mature guys and girls of this site would give me some idea. I've watched plenty of older and 3 times the mileage ones on eBay and cars and classics magazine make string money but I've also seen some 2.0 turbos make only 650. So the gap between these xms are wide.

Yes I know it needs some work but I've got all the bits so it's a little paint and some labour. I'm not going to say "it's mint or will be mint" I'm sticking to saying it's a extremely good condition xm for its age.

Feel free to ring or text me on the number below. I won't be able to answer your questions through this site until the evenings due to poor Internet during the day time.

Please be realistic if you call me. I am a honest guy and I'll help with any questions but I have a short fuse when it comes to insults and stupid questions.  I think the years of using eBay turned me this way.

Anyway this is the longest advert I've written but it's well deserved.

Thanks all.

Jon

Future (current?) classic! Style in these days of identikit blobs? And lovely to drive in.
How you FEEL in a car is important-in fact, Setright once wrote about how PASSENGERS felt, riding in various cars and the XM rated high.
I had a recent comment from a passenger that she felt we had just been camly wafted to our destination in MY 3 litre XM.

Yours has to be worth a few grand?

Sorry so late.

Well I'm one of them people that has not been in a comfy xm.
My white one has hard suspension on rear so I've never experienced the true ride.

I have decided to get the bits on her done. Time to stop being a lazy ass and get it done.
Problem is ill end up keeping it haha.

I thought the price would be the same but I've had offers of a lot less.

I am going to the citroen dealer who sold it to the last owner and getting them to stamp the book.
Good thing is my old man knows the owner of citroen garage as dad been in the garage trade all his life.

Not only that all the other bits I've got so just the case of shopping adding sorting bits.... over a weekend.

Once rear spheres are done I will give you my opinion on the xm comfort 😊

Thanks jon

In white, they're something a bit special. I am rather biassed here.
Agree about passengers' comments!

Do all 3 rear spheres, and get the system bled at all four brake calipers (RR first, maybe 1 litre to bleed before air disappears, followed by much less at RL, FR, FL in that order). Check there's no air in the LHM in the reservoir (dip a sample with a small clear container). Make sure tyres are not over-inflated, even slightly. Do the bounce test, when parked, to check Firm and Soft are both operating.

That's for that Chris. I appreciate all help.

What I can tell you is that sometimes the rear sits lower and when I pull upto lights or junctions it drops and goes up as it pleases. Not sure if that's a problem?

I have 6 new spheres now. Want it perfect.

Could you point me in the direction of the windows.... fuses where? Or switches ?

Thanks chris

Jon, "...it drops and goes up as it please".... i think that's a sign the brake hydraulics need a bleed. It stopped mine doing that.

Correct. The rear brakes are fed from the rear suspension hydraulic line. As you slow to the traffic lights with the brakes applied, the back end can sink slightly, and when you come off the brakes the rear end can rise again. Often causes amusement to small children in nearby cars.
