1992 Grey over Black Leather XM V6 24 Pallas for Sale

Post by kenramonet » Mon Feb 27, 2017 1:46 am

I'm offering my 1992 V6 24 Pallas for sale to any interested XM Forum member willing to collect the car in Germany where it currently is being stored. I purchased this car in Solvenia last October. A new clutch was installed and vital systems checked my idea was to drive the car from Slovenia to Rotterdam and have the car shipped to me in California. I was able to drive the car as far as Bad Camberg, Germany at which point the A/C compressor seized and required replacement. This has been done, and after making a trip from California to Germany this February, I was unable to get past the keypad immobilizer security system which had become inoperative due to the battery having been worn down. Nothing I was able to do succeeded in getting the car to start. Therefore, I was forced for a third time to leave the car at the Auto-Kaiser Peugeot/Citroën dealership in Bad Camberg and return home defeated to San Francisco.

At this point, I am prepared to sell the car to anyone willing to get me out of the car for what I paid for it ($3,500 plus $1,000 for the clutch and $950 for the A/C compressor for a total asking price of $5,450). And the car is worth it. It is in exceptionally good shape with just 175k on the odometer. The interior is spotless with no marks or damage on the black leather seating. The climate control system works perfectly as do all the power accessories. The body has no rust nor has it been involved any accidents during its 25 years of existence. I am the car's 3rd owner.

The only issue with the car is to defeat the immobilizer and to retrieve the car in Germany. I ask interested persons are requested to contact me via email at: kenramonet@gmail.com

At today's rate £4400. I assume lhd so not too appealing for the UK. Looks tidy.

Yes, I suppose the lhd does make the car less appealing to UK residents therefore I'm happy to entertain any offers around my asking price.

I have two lhd cars and this is not really a problem I find and worth learning to live with for the benefits of Diravi. After saying that I accept the general appeal here in the UK sadly will be reduced.

The spec and condition of the car does look good but, with the issues mentioned and based on other cars I have seen for sale on the continent, I fear the value may be closer to £2,500-£3,000.

Anyway I wish you luck with the sale Ken and I am sorry all has not worked out as planned with your ownership.

With regards,

Matthew T.

So you're trying to sell us a broken car in a foreign country which we have to retrieve,
and all you want back is every penny you've put into it - and your doing us a favour.

I think Matthew's being generous, I wouldn't even get close to that!

Oh, and the steering wheel's on the wrong side. :!:

To get a UK MOT wouldn't the speedometer have to be recalibrate to m.p.h. as the major showing on the dial with headlights having to be redirected to "our " side of the road ? Not too sure how easy that would be on an XM but I do know my neighbour gave up trying to get a 2nd hand VW Golf through the MOT he had imported from Germany because of these issues

The XM speedo faceplate has dual speed marking.
LHD display with MPH as the secondary display is acceptable.
Beam deflector conversion of early LHD XM headlights is a minor issue.
Only if this XM has been retrofitted with later LHD XM headlights would there be a problem.
That would require UK glass and plastic deflectors or complete headlights.
Those could be sourced reasonably easily secondhand.
Will post the details here when I scan them.
The big problem is the value of XM's in the UK.
Selling for more than £1000 gets difficult even for good roadworthy ones.

There is no problem with a km speedo that I have retained on both my cars and the headlight low beam deflectors are easily switched as confirmed by John, or if necessary the complete units can be changed. Regards, Matthew T.
