Hi everyone,
I am after some original mudflaps, preferably the earlier flatter type with the plastic rivetted 'Citroen' badges, either new or secondhand in reasonable condition with fixing brackets etc. Any offers would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Matthew T.

Hi Matthew

Try ebay item 260492407171. New and plenty of stock unless you need more than 20 sets.
Think that is what you are after.
It looks as though he has accepted offers rather than full price from the 6 buyers.

Edit note: Just looked at these again. I got it wrong they are copies not Citroen originals.

John

Hi Matthew,

Are these the ones you are after?

Or these:

The top ones are the original Citroen XM ones, the second are a set of Citroen generics. I got the second set on e-bay, they do appear from time to time.

Many thanks John and Robert,

I was hoping to secure genuine Citroen mudflaps if possible as I prefer the design and I have originals on my other cars.

To my knowledge the very early XM's had the flat type with the logo 'Citroen XM', although slightly later (Series 1) cars just have 'Citroen', which are also authentic but were fitted to other models ie. AX, BX etc. The more moulded shape seem to be found on later Series one and Series 2 XM's.

I would very happy with any of three different types.

With regards,

Matthew T.

Ive been looking for a set of moulded mudflaps for months and months and months, though ive never seen any for sale anywhere. Citroen obviously dont sell these any more (they dont even sell the S1 C5 flaps now) though they might sell the flat style types, im not sure. Might be worth asking.

Just a note, its been mentioned a good few times that mudflaps on Xms actually cause rust round the arches.

I think its more the flaps getting pulled off and breaking the paint that causes the most of the rust, but the later moulded type do hold a lot of moisture and crap.

There is a pair of these on e-bay at the moment also.

Ah, shows im not looking often enough

Many thanks for letting me know, i might just have those i think, they seem to be for the estate/break too - perfect.

Ill stick on a bid for those closer to the end :D

Yes its caused by the flap moving, though the metal brakets which mount straight onto the wing wont help matters either. Though rear ons areobviously fine, as they go on the bumper.

In the late 60s and early 70s mudflaps were a fad, at least here in Japan, and I thought they looked cool on my 1969 Mazda. A lot cooler than what I just saw on XM :D . There were some regulations/calculations in existence as to what model cars you needed to fit them to. The practice did not last long as mud and dirt got trapped in places where you did not want it, causing swift and menacing corrosion when left unnoticed.
Personally I can't see the need for this extra ballast on the XM, and neither can Citroen it seems. It certainly does not add any esthetic value to the car, but that is a subjective opinion :)

No i much prefer most cars with them fitted, all of mine have them fitted, though i can see that some people wont like them. Ive never had a problem with rust apart from the white Xm which is starting around the front arch behind the mudflaps - though those have been on from new.

C5 mudflaps are a good idea, as they dont touch the bodywork, they mount to the big plastic sill, so no rust problems there.
