Steering Rack

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Might be worth checking this out.
After driving the car for a short while (or running the engine and moving the steering wheel) dip a sample of LHM from the reservoir with a small clear container. Fluid should not contain bubbles, even microscopic ones.
Inoticed small air bubbles in the container but guys said they have bled the system sand replaced the pump.

My guess is air is trapped somewhere and/or entering the system through the suction line to the pump.

That's something positive found. Check and carefully remake the hose connections at both ends of the pipe that links reservoir to pump. This is under suction, and air can get drawn in. If ordinary thick jubilee clips have been used, these are not perfectly circular, and can distort the pipework. Best to use thin worm-drive clips, or smooth circular clamp-type ones.

When bleeding the sustem, do it at the four brake calipers:
- Wheels off
- Engine running
- Continuous light pressure on brake pedal
- Bleed in this order: RR, RL, FR, FL
- Expect most of air and fluid to be taken from RR bleed screw, up to 1.5 litres
- Keep reservoir topped up throughout

Air likely got into the system when the pump was replaced and bleeding it off must have been insufficient. Now let's see if you got the magic carpet ride back and if it stays that way. Good luck :D

Another thing that could off cause this is a lose or bent rack. But I would go with the bubbles first. While your at it check the belt to.

Easiest option is to remove rack and send away to be refurbished.
