I expect most people have seen this one;

Does the cam belt going spell disaster for these engines? That'd be a pity. The LPG would have made it pretty economical. Let's hope it gets saved.
LG.

Head off, replace all the exhaust valves, possible fit a new camshaft for peice of mind.
If anybody is interested i have a set of valves, camshaft and head, the pistons should be fine.
It's a crying shame as the cam belt job in these is easy and cheap to do.

I thought it was the other way round...the valves will be fine while the camshaft is broken into multiple pieces.
I understood that was a design feature of XU engines and have had the pleaseure of dealing with a XUD suffering the same fate.
I could REALLY do with the body panels.

Petrol xu engines are a 5 bearing cam where the derv is three..
Ive wanted this car two times previously.. chris andrews owned it then citrojim had it and he refused to sell it to me.
I know its a tct but be a shame to loose the car however a td converison would be good too.
Id love it but theres no room here or money

I can't see anyone pouring money into this car to be honest, XM's are becoming rather thin on the ground now but low sale prices just don't encourage restoration at this stage in the game.
For £100 it would be a bargain parts bag or donor shell to get that 24v on the road.
XU petrol engines always bend the valves, never seen one damage the cam.

Well. i would.. ive got two bare heads to supply valves.. but.. id sooner convert to derv.. but.. then i am stupid..
I wouldn't say stupid at all, Mad though, it's got LPG fitted!, it will be smoother, faster and just as economical as the derv so why not use as is?
I'm kind of itching but i dont need it and it would be expensive to move a dead one about that will probably not be worth what it costs for me to save.
Shame.

It's certainly interesting but as Paul, space is a problem.
The black panels and some interior bits would be good for the 24v and I just happen to have a complete TD to perform any mechanical swap if so inclined.
Unfortunately, at this price it will get scrapped.

Yep, cheaper to have the TCT doing 20mpg on gas than a derv doing 50mpg.
