Hi Everybody
I have recently prepared an advert for my left hand drive White Citroen XM 2.1 Turbo Diesel liftback 1998. I thought members might be interested before I place the advert. Please PM me if anyone is interested. I am looking for £950. The mileage is 266,593 kilometres or approx 160.000 miles. MOT. 15/02/2018
I hope this does not infringe any rules of the forum, this would be entirely unintentional.
The following is the advert which describes the reason for the sale.......
Advert:EBay item number. 202146853411
Please read carefully, to avoid misunderstandings.
Left hand drive Citroen XM 1998. Voted European Car of the Year 1990. This is one of the last batch off the production line, with the desirable 2.1 Turbodiesel P8C Diesel engine. Mileage is in Km
Due to my house having now sold coupled with a move to France, resulting in the loss of all my storage facilities, I have now, reluctantly, had to sell all four of my classics. Three are already sold.
I bought this XM with the intention of driving it to France as I have always wanted one and being left hand drive and a Citroen, it would be easier to register in France. However, I have now changed my plan.
I noticed that the XM had a green fluid leak from the front. Having no time to assess the problem myself, I took it into my local garage and they observed the following. The leak appeared to be from the steering rack. They also noticed that there was a water leak from the radiator. Obviously, these jobs need to be carried out before any further mileage is considered. He advised me that it is potentially quite involved, as the front subframe apparently needs to be dropped to enable the steering rack to be removed for inspection and either a repair of the rack or a replacement reconditioned unit be fitted. He was very honest and said he had not really dealt with the XM to any great degree and suggested the work could be better carried out in a workshop with more specialised knowledge in undertaking the repair. Alternatively, an XM enthusiast could perhaps undertake the work themselves. Looking on the Citroen Forums, there seems to be quite a band of enthusiasts! I am too ancient now to scrabble under cars, unfortunately. Also, I have not got the time to sort this out, what with the move being imminent and all the associated hassle. So, the XM is now also up for sale. I am sure an XM enthusiast could carry out the jobs required.
This XM, a 2.1 Turbo diesel liftback, originated from Germany and was imported to the U.K. in October 2009. It was owned by an enthusiast till October 2016 when it passed to his son. I bought it in September. It is in very nice original condition for an 18 year old XM. Yes, the bodywork has some odd marks, but overall it presents well. Some of the anodised external trim inserts are looking a bit faded. The wheels also really need refurbishing. The engine is strong and pulls well. The suspension behaves correctly. It starts on the button and is good on the road. The interior is in very nice original condition and looks very well overall considering the vehicle is nearly twenty years old. It is fitted with a very good Radio/CD player and a CD changer under the passenger seat. Lots of room in the rear and folding seats. Great boot capacity. The seats are velour and very comfortable. Electric windows. Electric mirrors. Power steering. Front and side airbags.
I am always open and honest about any vehicle I have sold. I am a classic enthusiast of over 40 years. I describe the cars as I see them, faults and all! If you are interested in this vehicle, please try to view. I realise that is not always possible, but it allows you to assess the vehicle to your satisfaction. I am happy to chat to you about the XM and will answer any questions openly and honestly.
It would be a great car for the enthusiast. Citroen engineering is always 'innovative'. Not always plain and simple but certainly interesting. This XM is an inexpensive classic that, without doubt, will very soon join the ranks of the DS, SM and CX before it and the price will rise accordingly. With fewer models available, this will be a great buy for someone. Yes, there are a couple of jobs to carry out, but a great base for a simple restoration and repair.

The cost of these vehicles in France is rising quickly. Nice examples are fetching between 1500 and 3500 euros.
Please remember the work, as described above, will need to be carried out before the car can be used permanently on the road. A trailer or transport will be needed to move the vehicle as the radiator is leaking and it will lose coolant. It is simply not worth taking the risk and driving it any distance. The LHM fluid has been topped up. I would also advise checking the condition of all the hoses and lines just to be sure of their condition.
Thanks for looking.
