Urgent request, The through bolt for the alternator

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Urgent request, The through bolt for the alternator

Post by XM-hooked » Sun Apr 22, 2018 8:13 pm

Hi,
I'm having problems replacing my noisey and loose alternator idler on my 1993 2.0 Sei Turbo, 45K miles.
When these failed Citroen also supplied a new alternator lower mounting through bolt which has a larger short mounting stud for the newer modified idler.
I have the new idler but I need the through bolt with the M10 short stud to mount the new idler. The Mk1 cars were modified when the idler failed, however all MkII cars had the later bolt. The cars with this bolt are most MkII XU and XUD engined cars, also I would think that most MkI cars have had the modified set up, mine still has it due to it's low mileage. A check is if you can screw an 8mm (13mm spanner) nut onto the short stud of the bolt it's unmodified like mine, I'm looking for the later one onto which an M10 (17mm spanner size) nut can be screwed which I think will form the great majority of them still out there.
So, I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me either off a scrapper or from the bitz box.
My car is once again off the road whilst I rectify this issue so it's now becoming urgent.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I've a large selection of bolts from various Citroëns I've broken up for parts over the years. How long is it?

Hi thanks for your reply, it's a special and it's still on the car but it's the lower alternator bolt, it is slightly shouldered and is the width of the alternator and has a 21/22? mm spanner size head but more importantly it has a stud projecting from the head to carry the idler. The early bolt has an M8 (13mm spanner) stud for the idler. This was later modified to an M10 (17mm spanner) stud to carry a more robust idler. New idlers are all the later M10 type but my bolt has the M8 stud.
If you have a bolt of this description with a stud projecting from the head and a 17mm spanner sized nut can be screwed on to it then it's the one I'm looking for.
Thanks,
Chris

I think most XU/XUD engined cars out there will have the bolt that I'm looking for so if youve got a scrapper or an engine with the alternator still attached there is a good chance that it will be the one I'm looking for.

Hi,
I'm not having much luck with this, did I include too much info?
I simply need the long alternator bolt from any XM except the V6s, also same on a Pug 605.
Hope someone can help as this has put my 45k mile 2.0 Sei off the road as I cant change the idler.
Thanks,
Chris

Parts lists bolts like this, some NFP, but there are bolt dimensions there, and cross-refs to other models.
Could you post your VIN, Chris, so correct listing can be looked at?
Thanks.

OK, found the special bolt on the parts diags:

>>>>>>> Unable to upload small JPG file (36.1kB)
Error message:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mssql_odbc ]
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type int. [22003]

Item #3
As you say, also fitted to most other XM (I & II), except V6 and 2.5 .

I wonder, if stuck, you could simply take two suitable bolts (M10 and M8?) and stoutly weld their heads back-to-back to provide the necessary double-ender ?

Hopefully someone will have one of these, though.
