has anyone a decent spare wheel carrier for hatchback? The surrounds on mine have completely rotted away. I could fashion something up with the welder but thought I'd ask first. Also I need the centre console part that fits around the radio and ashtray with the cover flaps please.
Thanks, Dean

Welcome! Hopefully, someone will be able to help.

If the pressed steel surround has gone west, and you're stuck, one DIY solution could be to use a section of larger car tyre, cut and anchored to the frame. Rustproof, too!

Do post some details of your car, and a photo or two as well. Whereabouts are you based?

I bought the xm known as the Gaffer. I'm in Coventry so had a very pleasant drive up from blandford forum when I collected him. Just got through a new MOT. Needed a new car and a couple of silencers replacing and advisories for tyres perished. Put 500 miles on him so far and enjoying wafting around in comfort.

Should also add that I have 3 bx's, an xantia and a xsara enterprise van. So he's in good company

Welcome to the forum Dean.

The centre console is an unsual request and most spare wheel carriers are rotten out by now but you might get lucky, certainly with the centre console.
do post some pictures up, we are a nosey bunch!

Good luck

My centre console is missing one button to open the flaps and whatever mechanism there is to hold the ashtray flap closed. It's only cosmetic but I hate seeing the ashtray open! Will get some photos up and do a proper introduction, but just off to work now. He's good mechanically and a pleasure to drive. However he has some lacquer peeling issues which seem common on his colour.

On the Mk1 the bottons that open the ashtray and stereo just pull out and can be replace, is this not the same on the MK2 anyone? would be an easy fix if they are.

The flaps have a frame of their own that bolts in from the rear.
The ashtray flap catch usually fails to hold the flap in place firmly.
You think it is latched ok and the first nudge and it springs open.
The design needs looking at to improve things.
There are 3 different wood effect colours/finishes for Mk 2 flaps.
I have spares in the heap but no time to look anything out just now.
As Dean says the buttons can be pulled off and replaced.

Both rectangular bottons/catches are now NFP (discontinued), but their part numbers are as follows:
Radio flap catch: 7588 C8 [listed as fitted to XM II only, no other cars]
Ashtray cover catch: 95 637 770 ZL [listed as fitted to XM I and II, no other cars]

Might help your search on Ebay, etc.

When our ashtray catch stopped working, I got a new one from Citroen, but that was a few years ago.
IIRC, all that was wrong with it was the angled tip had become worn. It could likely have been repaired by re-tipping with Araldite.

Thanks for your help. The flaps on mine are just black plastic.
