Headlamp diffuser

Hi,

Does anyone have a spare passenger side headlamp plastic diffuser?

Mine just broke a tab somewhere in the cleaning process - didn't even spot it until reassembling headlamp.

I'm trying a repair but it's not holding well.

Worst case, I'll source another headlamp, but can someone tell me the difference between Valeo 67517350 (mine) and Valeo 085621, which I have found?

Would 085621 fit in replacement for my 67517350 on a 1994 Mk2?

I've also found Valeo 085080 and 085081 (LH and RH pair), but these are not UK, so would need diffuser swap and reverse.

If I bought non UK headlamps is the bonnet release cable holder in the right place (i.e. in UK it's on the passenger headlamp)?

Hi Lee,
I have used non-UK (LHD) headlights, and they do have the cable holder in the correct place.
If just a broken tab or finger on the fresnel lens, you might be able to fix or form one with some Araldite; the tabs don't have to do a lot of work, only stop the lens from moving about.
New LHD headlights won't have the lenses/diffusers fitted - they were only for RHD cars.

Headlamps are a little more complicated than suggested above.

I can supply a spare plastic diffuser. or a complete spare servicable Mk 2 headlamp.
Send me a PM if you want to follow up on either of these.
Check that it is the clip on the diffused that is broken as my experience is that the front of the slot it fits into usually breaks.

Both RHD and LHD cars have the same location for the bonnet pull cable so it is always the same side headlamp with the cable clips.

There were three generations of XM headlamp.
The differences are minor but can cause problems.
Early Mk 1 headlamps had the power feed plug through the rear bulb cap.
This makes bulb changing rather difficult.
Later Mk 1 headlamps had the power feed plug moved to between the bulb covers on the headlamp case.
No change in plug type or wiring pin location, wires have enough spare to fit either.
The outer reflector design and silvering quality was changed, these are not interchangable with earlier ones.
Remained the same position on all Mk 2 headlamps.
All Mk 1 headlamps had a projection on the inside front for a nose cone fixing plug.
All Mk 2 headlamps had this projection recessed by about 6mm to suit the different design of the Mk 2 nose cone.
At this stage all new spare replacement headlamps were Mk 2's type supplied with a plastic spacer block for use with a Mk 1 car.
All the above headlamps used the diffusers for beam angling.
While LHD and RHD headlamps had different part numbers they contained identical components except for the diffuser.
During the Mk 2 production run Citroen decided to try casting the diffuser pattern on the inside of the headlamp glass.
Only LHD glasses were cast in this way, RHD designs continued as before.
This makes the LHD headlamp glasses unique and these headlamps cannot be altered for RHD use.

Thanks for the replies.

I was struggling last night because I could only find super glue, but I have stuck a piece of solid core earth wire to the broken clip area and fashioned it into a replacement clip. I'll reassemble later and see if it works. If it doesn't I'll be in touch, John, for your diffuser, thanks.

I will say I had limited success using Vanish Oxi to remove the yellowing, but need to get the lamps back on the car for a journey next week.

It sounds like a real gamble to buy non UK headlamps - I'm going to avoid that.

So Valeo 085621 could be a headlamp that requires a Mk1 nosecone? Can anyone verify this? I could source a Mk1 nosecone if necessary, as mine needs a respray anyway, if it makes it easier to source new lamps.

Just had a look at the new ones stored in the roof space.
085621 and 085622 are Mk 2 RHD production headlights.
085615 and 085616 are I think Mk 2 LHD early version production headlights as they still have plastic diffusers.
082655 and 082656 are Mk 1 RHD late version production headlights.

67517350 and 67517360 are the Valeo headlamp case moulding numbers.

Be reasonably quick if you want anything.
I am boxing lots of stuff up to send away to long term storage.

085619 and 085620 which are Mk2 LHD 02/93-->, LHS and RHS respectively

Makes some sense in the part number sequence.
These bought new, and not fitted with fresnels/diffusers, although the slots for them are there.

Try a thorough polish with Mer or T-Cut to attack the remaining yellowing. Mer got rid of most of mine.
