Gauging interest for possible sale of MK1 V6 Prestige

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Gauging interest for possible sale of MK1 V6 Prestige

Post by Dean » Sun Oct 14, 2018 8:14 pm

I am not saying i am selling, and i certainly do not want to sell but i may well be having some significant changes in my work life shortly, we have another little one on the way and i have taken the plunge and recently bought a (dog-eared) Campervan, i also have the truck so plenty of vehicles but very little time.

The XM has stood since the IOW car show back in mid-September and i went out today, started right up and took it out for a run, everything works bar the A/C because i have not had new hoses made up for the V6 engine but i do have the brand new condenser and receiver/dryer. There is no rust, the engine has been rebuilt, the gearbox was cleaned up and works perfectly, the hydraulics are all spot on, the body is near perfect, interior dito. Any info or history required can be seen in my rather lengthy blog post.

In the last 300miles has had new engine, trans and LHM oil change, all filters cleaned/replaced, new air filter and coolant.

Serviced every 1-3k with trans fluid, engine oil and filters, i have every receipt for the car during my ownership which totals more than a brand new small car, rosettes and other interesting bits of information relating to the car including the Autotrader Page featuring the vehicle from when i bought it back in 2003 along with all the instruction books and promotional info books for the wheels, Morette headlamps, Radio etc, including original sales brochure for the Prestige/premier limited edition models.

I have the original V5 issued in 1992 to the first keeper (Mr I Shindler) and two more in my name from when i bought it and from when the engine conversion was completed a year or so ago (yes, i always declare V5's lost and keep them).

The Vin plate from the donor car is in the history pack for future spares/fault finding, the car is registered as a 2975cc vehicle on the V5 with the relevant engine and transmission numbers, there is a glowing engineer report on the conversion performed by my local Citroen Dealer also along with copies of EVERY MOT the car has ever had, owners handbook pack with dealer stamped service book up to 50k when i took ownership.

Insurance fully comp with footman James, declared mods of wheels and headlamps (don't need to declare engine as they view as OE spec) with 3k mileage is £70/annum so not expensive to insure.

Car is not used in the rain or winter and is stored under cover.

4 matching Matador tyres with 8mm tread, all new pads and good discs, recently rebuilt steering rack, original spare wheel never used with Mitch tyre and rust free spare wheel carrier not fitted to car.

Upgraded interior with leather door cards, electric armrest, rear glass screen, one touch drivers window, single spoke MK1 wheel and new bespoke made black leather shifter gaiter.

Pair of NOS genuine strut tops fitted 2-3 years ago.

fully functional and functioning well sunroof with no leaks.

Every switch works, every illuminated thing illuminates, there are no leaks, no damp patches, no creaks, groans, knocks, wobbles, odd smells etc etc I have the original keys, functioning blip fob with working alarm etc.

The downsides are,

No working A/C due only to missing A/C lines, dummy ac pump currently fitted with the evaporator, original R12 pump and condenser all oil filled, sealed and in the case of the later two, in storage.

No road speed input to engine ECU, has no effect on the running or driving of the car at all but when scanned shows as a fault on the ECU (no EML light)

IMMO pad and wiring installed and working but the car is fitted with decoded engine ECU so keypad is always green.

Aftermarket alloys will need repainting soon as some light oxidation is setting in at the root of the spokes.

As stated, i am not looking to sell this car just yet but i am thinking about possibly doing so in the future, if anyone on the forum is interested then let me know but if I do sell it's not going to be £500........... or £1500 so please no really daft offers.

Oh gosh that is a shock Dean and I cannot believe you are looking to sell the car which is clearly your pride and joy and after all the work to fit the V6!! Of course I wish you well with whatever is decided and I hope all works out for the best. Many congratulations also on the other new addition to the family and I do not mean the camper!! I thought I'd sworn off any more XMs... at least that's what I'd told her, but this is fabulous and as tempting as anything I can think of.

I have to have a defibrillator fitted which will keep me from driving for a month afterwards (it's the law), but I shall follow developments.

Unlike some, I love the Morettes!

Dean, what can I say? She is such a stunning car and you have poured so much care and attention into her.
A serious car with an immaculate pedigree.
I am not sure whether to wish you luck with the sale.
I hope that everything goes to plan.

Rob

I owe you money Rob! nearly forgot, i will sort that out this weekend sir, sorry! and thank you.

Regarding the possible sale, no i do not want to sell it and i cannot talk too much about it at this stage but money must be raised by any means to move on to bigger and better things, i'm not having to sell my socks to put food on the table or anything like that but an opotunity has arrisen that i would like to take advantage of. The Camper would be kept as i would have no problems putting it into daily service for a while as i wouldnt with the XM but the camper is not nice, and it would not worry me to use it like that, it would with the XM, Will can tell us all about that. Also the XM is of no use to the family, it is purely my toy, the camper would be very much of use to the family.

Hopefully it will stay with me but if that is not possible then so be it, it is just a car at the end of the day and i have had a good long run with it.

They are always just a car. ☹️
No worries about the money. Sounds like you need it more than I do!!
I know what you mean about the camper. 🙄

The OE plug leads do not seem to fit in all of the engine cover clips, I'm not sure if I had a Frankenstein set of leads but the ones fitted to my engine were made by myself to fit into all of the clips and give nice even loops that match on three front cylinders.

Haha!! I found the same & did the same!. There were many sets listed on Ebay, but all differed in length & weren't in red. I had to get the HT wire & terminals from Blighty, but it all looks fantastic now. Just got to tidy the engine cover up now so it looks half as good as yours!
