Forum hanging

Post by Dieselman » Wed Feb 17, 2010 8:37 pm

Intermittently, but fairly often I find the forum hangs for a while when pressing 'submit' either for a new post or PM. It also happens when searching for new posts, etc.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes, actually, I do! However, I found if you simply refresh the page on your fourm you'll find it has entered but you get a new "Fresh" page to re-enter your original post!

I always thought it was me, this and no email notfications .. however, I have left it, because I know Ciaran is a busy man!

Me too... I always highlight all my newly written post and click "ctrl + c" (copy) before trying to post and then when it hangs I only have to paste the original text into the new and blank page.

Hi guys,

I noticed it doing it a few times too, but had put it down to the sometimes dodgy connection here at work. When its happened to me it doesn't loose the post, but rather submits it, delays for a long time, then when you refresh the page you find its already submitted the post, despite appearing not to.

Does this happen to anyone else, or are you all just getting it timing out completely.
Is it worse at particular times of the day, when there are other users on the site, or does that not seem to have any bearing?

It might be an issue with the cache files it creates, I'll check later tonight.

Ciarán

It's completely random, one minute fine and fast, next very slow to respond. It doesn't time out fully, eventually the page loads.

Hi Ciaran

Forum hangs for me also, seems to increase with the length of time I have been online rather than number of members using.
Had assumed that it was my end and was going to migrate to a new clean machine before long.
Moved to O2 broadband a while ago but I still use AOL email.
Just using AOL regularly seems to cause problems with the computer collecting crap and slowing up.
