Loss of hosted photos on our site was shot down when it was raised as an issue recently.

Several of us, not least John, have been pointing this up for some time now.
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8531#p103628

Photobucket continue to blank/block linked photos/albums.
If you have valuable stuff there, now is a good time to visit it, and download it back to your PC (just Sign In, and Download Album).
Leave the albums on PB, just in case there's a change of tactic there (eg a lowered price, but hold no breath).

FCF are taking a different tactic, having actively recommended PB as a preferred way to posting photos to their site.
Mercifully, we never did this, after some good advice here.

I would think that our threads/posts most in need of "rescuing" here are Self Help and detailed Technical, but plenty of members cars, projects, rallies....all sorts.

Rescue, I guess is
- author to download photos from Photobucket
- repost the image(s) by Editing the original post, and Uploading Attachments.

Come on guys . . . some feedback on this, please. I'm no expert.

No-one expected Photobucket to have a strop and block 3rd party linking.

The issue with loading them onto the forum server is they are very slow to open, if at all.

There are loads of picture hosting sites to use.

I did, which is why the issue was raised before we lost significant content as other sites have done.
Hosting sites use this technique as a standard commercial practice to move from free to revenue.
I fully understand the speed of display issue.
I have never proposed we ban using hosting sites.
All I was looking for was for the site to automatically copy hosted photos and data for easy retrieval if lost for any reason.
Ciaran's routine back ups cannot not copy hosted data just the links to it.
I first spoke to Ciaran about programming this as an automatic part of the system but that was not feasible.
So I proposed appointing a custodian to carry out the process manually.
That did not find favor so I gave up on this.

I have all my photo's and if there are any I don't have can retrieve them from Photobucket.
The issue with them being loaded onto this forum server isn't just the speed which they display, it's more that they just don't display after the first time.

Does anyone know why that is and what can be done to stop the problem?

I never experienced this non-loading behavior. Couldn't this be a browser or similar issue at your end?

Although I don't exactly think the forum upload is user friendly at all (especially if you want to have more than one in a post), I always use it unless I'm sending something from Tapatalk (they have their own hosting) and I always see all my pictures all right.

They load fine for me but sloooooooooooow, if there is a few pictures it can take a good couple of minutes to load them and while i do have farmer levels of internet speed it's not that bad.

I find uploading photos (even multiple ones) to our posts straightforward enough (on a PC), and quick.

What has become irritatingly slow is viewing posts that contain more than one photo, where some can take minutes to appear. This has got progressively worse over the last year or so.
