Downtime Friday June 12th

Hi guys,

Apologies, the site today suffered an outage from about lunchtime until now. This was caused by a power cut lasting over an hour, which exhausted the UPS batteries and killed all my servers eventually.
Once power was restored, I was able to remote in and restart the webserver, however unfortunately the main database server, which houses the forum data, as well as doing authentication for the domain, froze during the boot process, so though the front end of the site was live, the database was unavailable, so nothing worked.
I realise seeing a familiar 'SQL error' may have spooked some people, given other recent issues :o , but rest assured everything is intact, and the machine is now back up.
Sorry it took so long, I was at a meeting and it was a good few hours before I could get home to get physically at the machine.

I'll be looking into methods of remotely power cycling a frozen machine, but I haven't yet devised a way around this.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Am off back out for a while now, I only called in home to sort this, hopefully it'll behave itself for the rest of the night :)

Ciarán

No worries Ciaran, we all know you are the case if it does go down anyway, these things are unavoidable.

Thanks

Ciarán, you worry too much, we're a patient lot - we have to be given our choice of transport so you just know we'll be waiting around for you to kick the "club" back into life should the worst happen ;)

Thanks for rushing around purely for our benefit and have a great weekend !
