side light

Post by dowen » Fri Mar 04, 2011 4:33 pm

Hi, on a recent trip down the M5,I stopped briefly at a service station, only to find on returning to my car, somone had nicked the side light! How the devile they managed to get it out without opening the bonnet I will never know!
Has anyboddy got one? I will gladly pay the going price whatever that is. Unless you are the bloke who nicked it, in which case,I hope your cambelt snaps !

Are you sure it was there when parking, they can fall out if not properly clipped in.

They are available new, I used a local French car parts place who sent me a Valeo one. Can't remember how much for though!

I had a similar experience a few years ago, returned to the car after shopping and there it was, gone! Similar thoughts coursed through my mind and cursed the low-life that would steal such an item! On reflection, I had some work done that would have meant unclipping the light to allow the front to tip forward and the previous evening I had followed and ferried SWMBO to her garage for pre-mot work. It was blowing a storm and I think dm is right, the unsecured clip meant it blew away. The replacement cost a bit over £30 and a salutary lesson was learned. At least make sure the wire securing clip on the connector is present and with a bit of luck the errant light will be flapping in the breeze rather than missing :-)

I got out of the car once having been nearly 30 miles on the motorway and happened to glance at the nose and saw the sigelight dangling by the wire. I've no idea when in the journey it came out.

No work had been done on the car at all for a month or two, and as far as I know no-one touched anything near the sidelight for a long time before that. It just decided to come loose one day. I clipped it back in properly and it has been fine since.

Keep a look out on eBay - I managed to get this one here very cheaply as I asked for a buy it now not long after it went on.

Cor! I wouldn't have minded it at that price.

That's why I kept it quiet until the deal was completely finalised. :D
I didn't initially realise that they were fairly sort-after, so after a couple of emails with the seller it was mine!
Beginners luck for XM parts eh?! :D ;)
