Forum running very slow

Post by Dieselman » Tue Sep 13, 2016 3:20 pm

As the title, the forum is running very slowly and stalling. I note sam Skelton has noticed the same.

Hi Will

I took this up with Ciaran a few days ago when I had trouble loading images.
He is hoping to do a server rebuild as soon as he finds time.

Me too. I'm sure it will be sorted out - thanks in anticipation.

I did find it exceptionally slow just to get the up-front Login page, and switched my toolbar login icon simply to
"www.club-xm.co.uk/forum/ucp.php?mode=login"
which is working a good bit quicker.

We don't seem to have this periodic slowdown on FCF, but we run a Linux stack under phpBB rather than Microsoft.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the intermittent slowness for the past few weeks, took a while to track down as the webserver itself was running quite nicely, it turns out the root cause was a faulty router, which was intermittently dropping packets and other weird behaviour. It would be fine for a time, performance would dip, by the time I looked at it, it would be running like lightening again, rinse and repeat.

What gave it away in the end was the alarming brown heat marks on the outside casing! :o

Bit like our old friend F2 . . .

Thanks, Ciaran, for all the hard work in seeing this through.
