Good comparison Chris, I forgot about our dear old friend F2.
Thankfully the router hadn't gone quite as Kellogs Crunchy Nut, but it was certainly on its way

Was it a Samsung router...?

No Will, it was a Buffalo, and a business grade one at that.

Very surprised, I've used and recommended their stuff for over 15 years, this is the first one I've had that ever failed in any way, nevermind looked like it wanted to melt.
I have another Buffalo device from 2001, has never moved from its original location, has been on 24/7 since it was installed and has never missed a beat to this day.

The faulty one was from about 2009 I think. Not too bad when you consider a lot of other brands seem to croak after 2-3 years, but still.

Have you had similar problems with Samsung?

No. I was referencing the Samsung Note phone issues.

Overheating is a rare event for a router, unlike large servers when the air conditioning breaks down.

That was very witty, and I should have got the reference, given I was reading an article about the phones, just after I replied to you, but at that hour of the morning the joke seemed to go straight over my head! :)

Oh yes, been there this summer. Twice.

Having difficulty today and yesterday in uploading photos (getting message "The image file you tried to attach is invalid.").
File was a small JPG (82kB).
