Downtime and server relocation

Hi guys,

Sorry for the 24 hours or so of downtime, I had to move the server, which is currently residing in a temporary location. Unfortunately the connection speed there isn't as fast as where it previously was, but its serviceable.

It will be soon moving again, to a proper server room with UPS power etc, and the machine itself will be replaced with something a bit more modern, the OS updated, and the forum setup totally overhauled.

This is a good thing in the long run however it will no doubt result in some interruptions in service. I'll try to keep those to a minimum of course, and will give as much advance notice as possible of anything which will take it down.

Thank you for all the hard work you put into running this website for us, and not asking for a penny towards running costs either.

Ray.

Yes Well done Ciaran perhaps you should ask for donations as we pay on the C6 forum for Premium membership

You're welcome guys, in all honesty I enjoy it, and its what I do for a living anyway, so one more server to look after is a drop in the ocean. :)

In terms of doing it without payment, I build and maintain the servers from spares I already have, and besides a small amount of electricity and Internet connections (which I use for several things and am paying for regardless), it really doesn't cost much to run besides time.

Besides that, I'm more than paid in kind by the knowledge, helpfulness and good nature of the people who use this forum, it couldn't succeed without everyone. This is just a website, its the content and the people that make it so excellent. When I think of the countless times I and others have been helped out of a deep hole by people here, kept an XM on the road that would have been otherwise possible without their expertise, running such a website is a privilege rather than a burden IMO :)

"In the meantime the server is sat in the shed and the mouse is bloody knackered running round and round that damn wheel." :P
