When working on the brakes it became apparent that the locking wheel nut key was on its last legs and so I ordered some new wheel studs which arrived yesterday. Today I swapped them over and not at all too soon as one of the key pins has come adrift of the base, and another has sheared off completely.

If you have the same kind of key, it might be a good idea to check it is still fit for purpose.

I have been contemplating a cam belt and water pump renewal on the V6... I don't think it will be happening at around £800 according to the two quotes I have had.

I've just read Russ's latest update on his (ex mine) mandarin XM. He tells of all the jobs he has done and is planning and then says there's nothing much to report (paraphrased). I really do have very little to report on mine (ex Jim's) V6. :-)

I am away next week to look after Mum who has just had a cataract done and while that would normally be an opportunity to do some serious XMing, it can't be this time as I have decided to bring back the ZX that has spent the summer on Mum's drive for use in emergencies. The need for it never really arose and so it is coming home to hopefully find a new owner who will use it and give it some love. In some respects, I am qiuite looking forward to putting a few miles on it as it is great fun to drive: no fripperies but a really willing engine in a very light body = good fun. If anyone is thinking about sorning their beloved over the winter, the ZX has test until March and I shall be looking for about £400.

The XM continues to give me lots of pleasure. It does need a service and it will get one before too long but the boss's Multipla takes precedence due to an impending MOT and the need for a wheel bearing and cam belt change - fortunately less costly than one on a 3 litre XM. The Polo has just been set up for the winter with service and new track rod, so all should be well there. Sometimes, I envy folks who only have to run and maintain a single car - but not for long.

Looking great Rob. It's definitely my favourite looking mk2 XM, ...the silver and those alloys.
