S60 is still a nice car Neil. Interesting choice, at least it isn't an Audi! Been wondering what's been going on with Goldies headlining situation. Good to hear it's.... Erm....progressing!

But what I want to know is when did you get a sinker Xantia????

Had it about 15 months Russ. Been looking for a good one for ages, a proper 93 sinker. I had no intention of putting her on the road, just keeping her stashed away, but needs must. And I'm glad I have had her on the road as it's shown up all the little niggles that can affect a car when stood idle. ( I forgot to mention the front brake caliper that collapsed whilst out driving and I had to have a new caliper and tyre on it - thanks Paul - and this past couple of days the filler pipe under the bonnet has decided to separate from the washer bottle so I now have no washers. )

Oh! So a couple of months then!

That is such a nice example Neil. Wow! My favourite Xantia. Mk1 sinker with the chevrons on the bonnet.
Hope you get the niggles sorted out. It's just testing you.

I take it the elather has been added since it was built. The car looks to be SX trim, which didn't even have leather as an option, I believe.

What happened with the caliper?

It is SX trim and the leather has been retro-fitted; but it also has all the other tan trim fitted as well: Headlining, visors, door cards, carpets etc. The one piece of trim I do need for it is the engine bay sound deadening fitted against the bulkhead.

The intention was to take it to the National but a couple of days before the nsf caliper disintegrated whilst driving. The top bolt, which holds the two sections of the caliper together so it can swing to allow the pads to be changed, sheared in half. Locked the wheel up solid and ended up needing a new tyre as well.

Interesting failure point. Never come across that before. Must have either been a manufacturing fault in the bolt and/or grossly overtightened at some point.

Could have been really nasty.

Think Rob is right. A very unusual failure. The bolt is not stressed lengthwise in normal service, and so probably as Rob suggests.
What an awful thing to happen.

That is the slider and as said is likely to have been overtightened, stressing the point where the thread meets the shoulder. They are meant to be replaced periodically.
