I cant view your first batch of photos... I can only seen from the turbo manifold onwards....
Nice story.. The 2.5 sounds a MATCH for a 2.0 8v HDi with tuning box... Cable gear change, and Hydraulic clutch!
I wonder if a 2.5 box would fit a 2,1 engine.. cant see why not

Ahaaaa, it can only be Nicholas. You were right about that particular 2.5 being lethargic originally Rob, a few years ago I drove it the 90 miles from Willie's up home one night and while it was smooth enough and kept most Passats etc at bay on the motorway, it just lacked that kick. It was the first 2.5 XM I had driven and I found myself saying 'Whats all the fuss about, its barely faster than a 2.1?'
Willie reckoned it was just pretty well coked up from long hours of slow driving, a lot of time in traffic and the like, but I assured him I gave it a damn good de-coking on the M1

Hi Robert,
I knew there was something else familiar about your "before" photos. Herewith mine, one week into a caravan-towing holiday through Spain, back in 2001. The electrician's van shot though the blind backstreet junction in Cadiz, with driver fully ensconced in paperwork and map-reading.
One headlight angled nicely earthward, one horn pushed through a cooling fan (which destroyed its power-source), BUT . . . We completed the three-week holiday, towing, with one fan, and going into limp-mode at 110-120degC on uphill motorway inclines, and air-con still working! A £4500 insurance payout got it all sorted back home in the UK. A real tribute to the 2.5's EMU, which progressively reduces fuelling as the temperature climbs to unacceptable limits.

The nice people at Photobucket have decided that I have uploaded too many pictures this month, and won't display my own until the 21st, or they will if I upgrade to a pro account! I might look at another host, and re-host these pictures.

2.5 may well get the odd bump front and back but no 2.1 antics like tree trunks trying to get in the front passenger seat.
Watch the corners and the ice now you have a decent performance XM.

Re chip tuning. if you want to get around even quicker you could consider this from a seller in the Czech Republic

There are different chip sets for the three ECUs listed, the first being the one in my car. I am not all that interested but if I had a second spare ECU I might give it a go for the fun of it.
Robert you will find it hard to go back to a buzz box after this.

I am still an automatic man at heart, given the choice of doing something or not and all that! I am looking forward to taking a 2.1 Auto to MOT this evening, as it has been a good number of months since I have driven this car, and look forward to total relaxation!
I don't think my 2.5s ageing clutch could cope with the power upgrades either! £10 for the MAP sensor is a good price. Your car is as late as mine if memory serves me. Also you have been spotted around Enniskillen, or someone else with a Green Exclusive has been spotted!

NTL assure me that the webserver will actually have the 100Mb connection that I pay for very soon, rather than the ~18-20MB unstable nonsense that its been doing lately. So if they can manage to resolve those issues I'll look at increasing the storage size of photos on the site, you might then be able to post pics directly rather than having to use Photobucket, though I know its handier to use a remote host if you post on multiple forums, you can't win really...
