Great stuff dean.. i wish i had this commitment but i dont.. my intention was to simply swap that newer engine stright into yog and go... but from your journey i would have possibly had great fun with it fitted

(You not found a fix key locking fob key in yog at all have you)

All part of accentuating the V.
I hate to be a 'party pooper' Dean, but sadly you are not going to see much of that extra black when the engine is in place! The timing chain cover is hidden by the top engine mount bracket and the rear rocker cover by the oil pump and compressor, plus deep shadow, although I realize you may not be fitting the latter component. The gearbox is pretty much invisible too unfortunately due to limited space and the various pipes that sit across it! Nevertheless I do also admire your commitment and artistry. Regards, Matthew T. PS. I sent off the engine cover by first class post earlier today.

Sorry Paul i didnt see anything like that in there when i searched for the lifting chains but i can check again next time im down there. This engine would have been ok, a bit down on compression and the fuel system would of needed a good clean but it would have done the job.

There will be nothing that really stands out Matthew but there are bits you can see and it will improve the overal look, especially if/When i remove the water pump, its surprising how much things stand out when you make them stand out even when the view is a little obstructed.
Thanks for that Matthew.

Just a mock up at this stage as i want to make sure its all coming togther correctly, unfortunately i seem to have half a 24v PRV HT lead set and half a 12V set, the rest being black or rodent chewed but im sure i can get around it to keep it looking neat and get the Engine cover in the correct position.

The cooling system has been pressure checked and is ok, the oil system is primed up which is a pita to do as you need the timing chain cover off which is the oil return path from the heads and the first thing the oil hits after the crank is the cam chain tensioners which pee oil out at a horrific rate making a right mess!

i need to get the injectors sorted out that i pinched from YOG and fit the fuel rail assembly, track track down a dipstick and re-form the dipstick tube, order a new rubber mount and mount it, press a new roller bearing into the aux belt tensioner, fit the exhaust studs, clean and paint the water pump and o/s engine mount..............
No point in having a list, its still depressingly long!

That is looking good Dean and I am glad that you received the cover safely - many thanks for the swift payment! With regards, Matthew T. PS. Here is a photo to keep you going!

Well subject to testing, bolting the front rocker cover down, fitting the starter, hydraulic pump, painting the pump and alternator brackets (tomorrow), fitting all the hose clamps its done!

The only two things that are hanging me up are exhaust manifold studs at a sensible price which im going to try and solve tomorrow, with 24 of them it doent take long to get to a three digit sum of money at dealer prices, which i just cant justify or afford. The big one is a crank pulley, the one for this engine was cracked right through the keyway so is scrap, the one on ebay for sensible money is broken and i dont want a wobbly unballanced chunk of iron hanging off the end of the crank on my newly fettled engine and anyone who has one has an engine bolted to it so if you know of one, anywhere can you please let me know.

No worries Paul, if you turn one out in the clear out I will have that for YOGs engine but there is no rush, sure you have better things to do at the moment.

Unfortunately at this point my phone died but the whole starter has been stripped, checked, cleaned, lubrictaed and reassembled. Unfortunatley i slightly broke one of the brush holders, it will still hold the brush fine but one of the brushes is OK, the other just over half worn out.

I have ordered new brushes and carrier plate for them, £20 and the starter is as good as new, shame i will never see its new paint job but i dont want to have to go digging for it shortly after fitting the engine as its in a slightly awkward to access position.

My Cobalt car had a slow starter which was down tot eh solenoid shuttle sticking so not making a good contact onto the electrical contacts. Have you cleaned and lightly lubed the solenoid? It made a significant difference to the speed of the starter motor.
