God no, cant be doing with migs, too much rubbish to carry around, too expensive to buy and run, if i want to weld stainless i buy the rods, if i want to weld steel i buy multi purpose rods and i dont weld anything below 1mm anyway, mine is an inverter too so it weighs nothing, welds like its flowing silk and there is nothing to break!.
Dinitrol has already been used, ive got the oil for the box sections and stonechip for the rest of the car, ive used seem sealer to re fill all the seams around the front of the sills and ive got some weld through primer to lay down onto bare metal plus its all being treated with hammerite rust cure which is the bee's knee's, you need some of that for sure!

I had regular hammerite paint react badly to stone chip on a car a few years ago.
I learnt how to weld on a mig, I would find it hard going over to a stick welder now!
I need to Dinitrol the keeper cars first! Rather than the disposible work horse.

Its what you get used to with welders, most of my welding is 3-15mm steel so the stick is fine, to be fair its tricky trying to weld 1mm with the stick but with practice its ok.
The rust cure is brilliant though Robert, you really should try some. its just like milk in colour and consistancy so it get in everywhere and if you put it on first you can kiss goodby to the rust, Any waxoyl or stonechip is ok but it will only slow the rust and wont touch the spot welded seams, with the converter on there its never coming through again.
I spray'd it inside the cills and other layered spot welded areas the day before the box oil went in and its just pulled right through all the seams where the different panels butt together, cant recomend it enough.

No problem Dean. I'll be starting on that car sometime this weekend hopefully.
I have some Hammerite Kurust and a Dinitrol rust converter in a spray can rust converter. The Kurust works well, but the Dinitrol in the can is so handy, although it takes a while to cure. I did spray some of the Dinitrol rust converter on an old brake disc and left it outside, it lasted a couple of weeks alone in the rain before it fully broke away, so should be good with proper underseal on top of it again.

I'm surprised you can weld car body with an arc welder, I have in the past, but it's hard work. The easiest is MIG, but can still burn through, the absolute best really is TIG.

you cant do it with the old transformer stick welders as they are a bit savage, but i find the inverter that i have is brilliant, it welds so smoothly, the trick is to use big rods, 1.5 just blow holes everywhere if your not carefull, if you use a 2.5mm rod then they dont burn as hot and its fine to weld with.
I now have one door finnished, lined with soundproof matting, box oil'd, window mech's all plastered in grease and the open cell foam replaced with one sheet of 3mm closed cell foam, 3 more to do!
