Paul might have something to say about that - although he has polished the dash. :P

I have a neighbour who fully washes his car every one week at most. "Washes" I mean it's looking showroom after each session. 2-3hrs a time, doorshuts, under bonnet, interior, the lot. He's taking his time, enjoying. Sometimes I'm thinking he actually might wear the car more, with all that scrubbing. He's a godsend though, in my effort to explain the wife why I have to take care of our car more often.

After a nice day out and about 5 hours total driving, it decided it wanted to rest today!

It won't start, up to its old tricks. I think I need to do the ignition mod, change the ignition barrel possibly or give the starter motor a good old thwack. Turn the key and nothing. But all other electrics work. So there we are, spend a day with other XM's and it's caught something.
Typical!

Almost certainly starter inhibitor switch or relay.

 it certianly wasn't so I can't blame you Rob! :D

Interesting Dean, cheers. I'll have a prod and a poke tomorrow If I have time. It might change it's mind of course and start tomorrow. It's a bit intermittent this issue. Rarely does it, but this is the worst is has been on this occasion.

Right. Will do. Just found some threads, particularly Ciaran's relay fix. And John mentioning the ignition switches do wear out and cause the symptoms I am getting.

We shall see.
