Sounds interesting Johnathen... I may be interested in that...

Back on TOPIC.. Did a bit more on the heater unit today..

Its not the cable, or the dial.. Its Actually the heater unit itself!

Its a rather complex setup on the heater itself... The cable moves a "cog" that operates three different levers... One at the rear of the heater box, one at the front.. and a third lever that moves the vent flap...

Anyway, its controled by a plastic tooth cog, that flimsey .. and it "Skips" teeth.. I discovered its skipping the front flap controller... After a bit of messing by hand, I have set it on Windscreen and Feet setting... Which will have to do for now untill I work out what to do next or how..

Its virtually the opposite way to the Xantia setup.. Where theres Two Cables to the slider on the Xantia unit that operates the two flow flaps, theres one single cable that connects to the Cog the drives the three flow flaps..

Not sure which is best...

Anyway, Blower sorted, direction flow set for now...

Thats it for now.

Ive not been on here in ages but was interested to see how your getting on with this. Well it would seem! 8-)

Will it be sold on once its done or is it going to be used Paul?

I can see myself in another XM before the year is out

She will have to go eventually, as theres one small thing that irritates me, LACK of ABS...

Shame really, I LOVE the colour. the only other big issue is the rear nearside quarter glass thats broke.

Was wondering where you been chris, not seen you about for ages!

Ill be dooing the clutch and had gasket before she goes though, so I know she is perfect then.. Only 106k on the clock!

No ABS, that is a bonus!

I guess your going to replace the glass? Its bonded in I suspect, not a nice job and where do you get a replacement :|

I could really fancy a S1 TD manual in poverty spec, I like the once Vince got, thats a great looking car.

I've not had much chance to come on here or other forums lately. Plus we are now XM-less, for now ...

The glass is still availble New for citroen, from the dealer I beleve at £165 quid..

Not sure I want to pay that really... but may not have a choice!

Put it this way Chris, Ill do the head gasget and put a Multi layer steel on it, Ill do the clutch, everything else works IE: All the windows etc. Glove box gas strut is dead, and the catch release lever is broken as useual...

Ill be fitting parking brake cables (they are siezed) the calipers are not siezed.. I need to check rear brake pads, and Ive also seen a weep on the heater matrix, so when the head is off, and the cooling system is drained, Ill also change the heater matrix for a new one...

She has ALL the useual Si stuff just the ABS is missing.. Seats work, mirrors work too...

That is a fair bit of money for the glass but at least it is still available should it come to that.

Its also a fair bit of work you have planned for it, that'll keep you busy!

Managed to do some more today...

I still needed to do the off side pads, so got onto that today...

Moving the car around the yard, the brakes had a strange "Snatch" on.. anyway, got her jacked up, removed the front wheel, and found the following:

Image

Notice anything strange?????

Look closely!

Thats right, apart from the pads being on the metal, the friction has SHEARED away from the centre! So the car was braking on the rear brakes! Least I know they work, but will still remove the wheels for a check over!

The other job was the siezed Near Side parking brake cable... Swapped that too..

Refitted a set of NEW discs (foolishly didn't take a pic for evidance BUT I have put them on) :D and new pads... Tried again, and wow, normal braking resumed!

Im also impressed to see the Caliper Piston dust covers are BOTH intact on the calipers. So other then rust, this car has had some previous care..

Anyway..

On another note, ALL my XMs will be gettin united tomorrow, Im moving the two I have at work up to the farm, so the Base D will be meeting the others tomorrow, and the grey 24v will meet its sister again..
