I disagree with the temperamental label. Lubrication is the life of every IC engine. The rotary always uses oil to lubricate the rotors and their seals, it's purposely injected, it burns small amounts of oil. Failure of the oil injection system will blow up the engine. The RX-8 rotary engine, with proper maintenance lasts more than 200k miles.Still can't believe these engines are still so temperamental.

Re: CitroJim's ES9 V6 Exclusive
I fully agree that oil is the key to the long life of an engine Jan. I understand the RX is a bit fussy and needs both the right stuff and changed regularly. Even then they don't enjoy a seem to enjoy a terribly long life here in the UK... 70,000 miles seems about par for them needing a refresh. I guess most will be able to be easily enough rebuilt with just new seals and hopefully few dies quite as tragically as this one has...
What came out looked like tar and I'm of the opinion it either ran out of oil, maintenance was terribly neglected or the oil pump failed or even a combination of all three..
Today we see if an ES9 might fit
Russ, on the Tesla subject I recall reading somewhere of a person who converted his MGF to electric traction and made quite a little rocket out of it...
Properly done an electric car will have staggeringly rapid acceleration and should be a bundle of fun. All-out top speed may lack but then what does that matter when you have lots of acceleration to enjoy!

An electric car typically has three times the acceleration of a petrol engined car.
I really fancy a Tesla-S but the range bothers me a bit, even on the 300 miler, as it can be a bit short of that and that could be a problem for me occasionally.

Yes Jim I have read about that MGF too. Brilliant idea. I think someone in Eastern Europe has converted an XM. On you tube.

Sadly, the ES9 fitting test had to be cancelled today because of the weather. It's been horrendous and even snow at one point!

Re: CitroJim's ES9 V6 Exclusive
Due to snow stopping play, sadly no XM work this weekend although I'm conscious that the X rally is but a mere fortnight away and the XM needs a good clean before the big day and I really want to do a gearbox oil change...
Best I could do with the XM was clear the snow away from her and take her out for a battery charging run...
Inside in the relative warmth of the workshop I reassembled the RX-8 engine as the owner has decided to purchase a recon engine and needs his old one for part-exchange. All thoughts of engine transplants are now off the agenda
I rather enjoyed the reassembly job and learned the quirks of the job and learned too how to reassemble the rotor apex seals..
The engine came apart very quickly but didn't go together quite as quickly although it was still not a long or difficult job...

I exactly didn't do anything today apart from looking at a derelict cottage for somebody...Even that got me soo cold I almost ran back to an XM to get warm again.
