The question is? Is he selling?!

Karl seems very keen to get an SM despite the rather obvious hurdles. In fairness he is a professional car restorer so shouldn't be too daunted by the SMs propensity to dissolve before your eyes. He is also a dedicated Citroen fan so may be true love will find a way.

All the new exhaust bits have now arrived and I am just waiting on the two new IFHS intermediate spheres.

I know that I need to take the exhaust off to access the rear sphere (the exhaust has not been the cars finest feature so I decided if I was doing the spheres then I would also replace the manky exhaust). Any other sage advice while I am under there? Also any advice on the front middle sphere?

All the main spheres and the accumulator were replaced last year so it is just the two 'rigidity' spheres left. The car seems to be riding too hard for my taste but before is move (inevitably) to possible electrical issues I thought I'd sort out the mechanical causes.

A good wax coating will also be applied while the exhaust is off!

When removing spheres, give them a good clout with a lump hammer before attempting removal.

Good man! Nice to hear someone mention this for a change. Much talk of rust on the forum, but little about waxing.
Hopefully, everyone's doing it "on the QT" under cover of darkness.

What wax do you use Rob?

I think i'll be doing the same spheres on mine, the ride is not a supple as it should be either, and looking at the service history, i think they're due.
Got a feeling my XM is heading for a few months off the road this autumn whilst i do many things on it!

Mine is hopefully facing a respray in all the same shade of white. This is subject to some cash being available. Plenty to do before we get there mind you. Once the exhaust and spheres are done it will be the timing belt, water pump and tensioner.
