Robert, there's a big problem with 2.5 ownership and me. One that is a showstopper and it's not that it's LHD...
I'll give you a clue - it has too many pedals in the driver’s footwell
Anyway, I thought anyone contemplating 2.5 ownership needed John's express permission to do so and I'm not sure he'll grant me that...
Anyway, I'm very content with what I have

Hi Jim
No need for permission.
Plenty of them still out there.
On present estimates current my stock will outlast me.
Given a lot of thought over the years to the extra pedal problem.
Solving that would move the 2.5 well towards my ideal XM.
Still on the look out for suitable bits to store away now I think I have a solution to the ECU problems.
Watching the French and German prices drop as an ES9J LHD auto might provide all I need.

John I'm really interested in the thought of a 2.5 auto with the HP20.. Now that really is getting on for the perfect XM
You don't possibly want the ES9 autobox but rather the HP20 fitted to the 2.2HDi engined cars like the 406..
I'm thinking the gearing might be better suited...

Hi Jim
Every option brings its own problems.
I think part of the HDi improved fuel effiency comes from longer gear ratios.
So getting the gearing right is rather important.
Obtaining the correct gearbox ECU is another factor.
If a late LHD V6 has XM Dravi steering that is another item of interest.
The next few years could well prove interesting for me.
Would be great to get a couple of unique XM options on the road.

Absolutely yes John. I've always wanted to experience Diravi steering and learning that late LHD V6s had it makes it even more interesting!
That's some interesting projects you have in planning there and I really hope they come to fruition
We have a lot of chatting to do at the next rally

Diravi is excellent! I hope Matthew is bringing his Germany XM to the X rally. I would love to try a Diravi XM. Its great in the CX.
If we are talking about fitting HDI engines into the XM, I suggest this

:
Trouble is its not much more economical than the 2.5, but its a fast automatic diesel, which is what the XM needs!

That's long enough. You will find new LHM+ improves the ride noticeably, if it's still too bumpy at the front, drill the sphere dampers out to 0.7mm.
I changed the LHM last w/e and definitely noticed a difference.

There are some very interesting ideas brewing here.

I agree Robert. V6 HDI in an XM is a great idea.
