Re: S1 V6 auto back on the road at last!! - fourth time luck
I went out for a run in the car this morning and oddly the engine now seems to be revving up to 4,200rpm max!! Regards, Matther T.

The only other thing I can think of is the fuel pump or filter, but they should both allow th eengine to rev fully under little or no load.

Re: S1 V6 auto back on the road at last!! - fourth time luck
I dont know, if its leaning out at high revs..... i know it takes naff all fuel to rev an engine with no load compared to partial or full load but this could be an issue if the ECU is not seeing certain information.
I still think it could be something not assembled correctly, engine comes out of the car running fine, a new flywheel is fitted and it goes back in the car and wont run.
I take it the reluctor ring on the flywheel is correct? cant see they are.

As per my earlier list Will both the fuel pump and filter have unfortunately been changed with no effect. The engine is starting and running happily up to 3,000-4,000rpm Dean but not beyond that point! The new and old flywheels definitely matched as previously confirmed to Will, although there are obviously many other parts that were taken off and refitted including various wiring connections that I shall next recheck. With regards, Matthew T.

Re: S1 V6 auto back on the road at last!! - fourth time luck
Another saga with the car now as the autobox governor seal has gone again!! I struggled back for a trip out this morning with no reverse and apparently only one forward gear, which was not first! It was possible to pull the governor and as expected the central rubber seal gone as before - possibly the earlier fitting had nipped the edge as it was badly mangled? I wonder if any one knows a source of single seals as the kits are quite pricey with other items not required? With regards, Matthew T.

I would try a ZF stockist. I changed the filter on mine and asked if it came with new seals. Guy was happy to provide a seal set that included the seal rings for the price of the seals alone!
What shape should it be? I have a few 'extra' seals. All circular. If you can wait a couple of days I will send photographs and sizes. I am currently in Cornwall for a couple of days 'decompressing'

Many thanks for that suggestion Rob and I did find this on an internet search:
http://www.zf.com/unitedkingdom/en_gb/c ... orate.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The governor seal that I need is one of two square section rubber rings with dimensions of approx. 2x2mm and 50mm diameter and in the photo you can see one seal is still in place.
I spoke to someone at ZF UK earlier today although they could not immediately find the part number required and I also then found this useful document:
https://www.automaticchoice.com/uploads ... f4hp18.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Hopefully I shall have further news to report shortly.
With regards,
Matthew T.

I'd be buying in a few sets Matthew. £7.27 each set + post for apparently genuine ZF items.
Is that a static or rotary part of the governor. If stattic it shouldn't be splitting, if rotary, is something catching it and splitting it?
Thanks for the parts manual link.

Re: S1 V6 auto back on the road at last!! - fourth time luck
I wondered if you made contact with 'Automatic Choice' for the quote Will and £7.27 is certainly more reasonable than the £30ish that I paid for a complete kit last time! I assume the whole body of the governor rotates and I did check inside the cylinder and there are no obvious sharp edges. It is very easy to nip a seal when fitting, as I did on the first occasion I carried out such a repair, but then the box did not work at all!! As you will note from my photos, I think the subsequent effort must have just slightly twisted the seal, which nevertheless remained intact and worked for a while. The governor has now been replaced and I am pleased to say all is well with the gears and it is now just the engine issue to resolve! With regards, Matthew T.

Appologies, Matthew, I forgot to post the link up for the seal supplier.
