The Sept 1990 UK brochure has a specification table.
"Split folding rear seats are optional on most models".
Heated seats (front and rear) were standard on 3.0 V6 SEi and 24v.
They were an option at extra cost on 2.0/2.1 Si/SD and SEi/SED.
Leather upholstery was standard on 2.0 SEi/2.1 SED, 3.0 V6 SEi and 24v.
Romana upholstery was standard on 2.0 Si/2.1 SD and 3.0 V6 Si.
Monaco upholstery was reserved for the remaining cars.
That suggests that Romana heated seats were available ex factory.
That leather split car rear seats will be very rare but may have been requested.

It is likely that the heated seat wiring is present ex factory in cars with the heated seat option.
Mk1 rear seats heater switches were in the rear doors next to the window switches.
I have a few spares and I expect Paul will have some.
Front switches go in the console panel (green wiring plugs and switches).
They will also fit in the console rear panel but were not fitted there in Mk 1's by Citroen.
On Mk 1's the heat control thermistor is located on the heating element in the seat.
Mk 2 heated seats use different switches giving variable heat control using a module fixed in the wiring not the upholstery.

Some years ago speaking to my local dealer I was advised that a small number of XM oddities existed.
In addition to a few show cars passed on through dealers there were specials for regular customers and company principals.
He quoted one buyer who came back every couple of years for a new car, had to be top of the range with no leather and available to time.
Sometimes they managed a factory special order. Sometimes they got bits ex factory. Sometimes different new models got an inside swap.
In the later case the swap could be just seats and not door panels.

Thanks John, I managed to keep the switches when I removed the door cards, I'm quite sure the guy I bought it off mentioned your name, his name is David and he's from the Cannock area?

I had to make a very difficult decision this morning, I didn't know which XM to bring to Wetherby next week.
I wanted to bring K-BAN but everything was telling me to bring KVG as it will be appearing in Practical Classics at the end of this month and I want to give it as much exposure as possible, in the hope of selling it. I made the decision the bring KVG which meant going to the lock-up and collecting her, leaving K-BAN in her place. I loaded some stuff into the boot of K-BAN and I was closing the hatch one of her gas struts popped off and tried to exit through the tail-light, because the strut popped off the hatch immediately became a lot heavier and as I went to grab it I pulled the spoiler mount off. Not good. I could tell she wasn't happy. I removed the spoiler and the broken mount, placed some duct tape over the holes and went to collect KVG. I have a spare spoiler, so I'll need to get that sprayed in the correct colour.

The replacement spoiler and light bar went off to the painters this morning.

I tried to upload a photo but keep getting the following message: The image file you tried to attach is invalid.

K-Ban is back from the body shop with a freshly painted bonnet and spoiler. The light bar however was damaged whilst in the oven so won't be ready until Tuesday. I 'borrowed' the light bar from KVG as you can see in the picture.
