Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Feeling good about being old-er today, looking into insurance. 4000miles/year, fully comp, protected NCD, garaged and it will cost me £112.67/year
Last time it was on the road i was paying £370ish/year.
£10 a month makes having her back in service a much more financially viable proposition when pitching the idea to my beloved wife.
Pay as you go RFL makes things easier to swallow also.

Cheeky bast......................!Dieselman wrote:The joys of hitting 50...

Things have been moving very quickly recently, I'm not going to reveal too much in the way of pictures for a while because I'm not too far off rolling out the finished article and it kind of spoils the grand enveiling (

I've tried many treatments and even paint on the black rubber over the years but it has been a constant and futile battle with an almost lichen style staining of the rubber that has led me down the path of Vinyl, in truth I have been testing this for two years at least with one painted and one wrapped trim piece left in the elements on the shed roof, I have been pleased with the results so although I will not yet reveal the extent of the work undertaken I thought in keeping with the caring sharing nature of the forum I would show my two year old test peices, one is vinyl wrapped them other painted with plastikote.
I will leave this for the moment by saying nothing more than expect vinyl to be used on more than just trim, it may or may not be used tastefully to highlight some subtle design features of the car and as a long lasting protective covering to others.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Now you mention i do have a lot of tools ive gathered over the years all stemming from a halfords tool draw my grandad got me for my 8th birthday? i think. its just kind of grown from there, the hanging of tools on the wall is a reflection of just how sad i am, i did resist drawing lines around them though
Russ, was it you that used vinyl for the chrome trims? i have some but it doesnt bend at all, the plan was to wrap the chrome inserts to protect them but its just not happening, clear vinyl is being used in high impact area's as is common with later vehicles. Plasti-Dip in matt black was on the cards for the wheels but leaving the polished stainless rim so it kind of ties in with the theme of black and chrome trim, the jury is out on that though as its just looks like the wheels are a polished chrome hoop at a glance, maybe too much black, very easy to just peel off though if it doesnt work out.
Going to have another night of wrapping, its a very drawn out process getting it all right and tucking all the edges in under other trim but it is really making a big difference, should have enough left for a stealth Total sticker on the bonnet
Tyres and screen are due in the next three weeks, the guys doing the screen have been out to lookand said they will be able to save the top trim no problems, all the scuttle is out ready for them. Just hunting for the right A/C specialist who is mobile and will do what ive heard refered to as a 'retro gas' with a complete flush and clean out of all old oil and replace the pipe seals, not many about.
