iirc, that box section is mean to drain into the wing via the longitudinal member. The water will be from the sunroof drains.

Re: Russ's 2.1 SED Auto
Oh right...thanks Will. I'll chuck a load of water down the drain and see what happens. I did test that drain last week and it flowed straight out and away out by the sill with no trouble at all. But it would be interesting to see if any water is flowing in there.. If it isn't that, then I'm stumped!!

Re: Russ's 2.1 SED Auto
Well I finished off the passenger sill and floor. Treated the sill to some oil. Definitely holds more oil than the other side. HMMMM!
I checked Will's idea of the sunroof drain leaking into this box section. And I could see no way it is doing it. This box section is above or higher at least than the scuttle well. I just cannot see how water is getting into it. mystery continues there. I have done something slightly odd however,
I put a big sausage ring of blue tack around the open plug hole. So if it does rain, we'll see if anything leaks into it or not via a different route. My idea is possibly water getting though the bonnet gap...as it should... and running down into the box section via a poor seal on the plug. So if it works and nothing leaks into it via a different route, it might suggest wether the plug wasn't fully sealed....in a strange backward thinking kind of way!
I also think I have possibly found the interior leak / damp carpet problem. Last night I found a thread by Peter N ....
I think...and he found the seal that is glued to the body at the top of the door seal had come unstuck. Result water getting in behind the seal. So I have looked at it and sure enough the glue seal is totally shot. Dried out and no bond at all. So I have been resticking the seal and see if that works. If not then at least it is bonded back to the door jamb!
And I still haven't gotten round to doing the idle setting and I think I need to tighten the pump belt too. Looks a little slack and chirps a bit. Fun and games continue.

Re: Russ's 2.1 SED Auto
Another car day today. And what glorious weather. Spring has finally sprung...well to day it has anyway!!
I have found the issue with my leak into that box section.
After trying the sunroof drain again today, it proved fruitless. The water just came pouring out so quickly behind the front wheel....nothing leaked into it. Which is good as it means my drains are clear and that is not the source of the problem.
You can tell this, as the box section is simply too high in the cars chassis, for it to flood it.
Anyway, late this afternoon, with the car parked in direct sunlight and enjoying the warm sunshine, as all French cars do,
I was touching up my underseal on the drivers side strut top. I missed a bit at the back of it. So got on it. Anyway, because the sun was shining in the right direction, my dad was interested in this issue too and had a look at this box section. He noticed a small hole on the wing join, just before the rolled over piece of metal that sits above the spheres. It looks like it is meant to be there, but because of the light shining in, you could see the inside of the box section.....just!
So I got a straw and stuffed it in the hole and poured a small amount of water into it. And guess what, it trickled into the box section. So I have now found the problem, just need to fill it with something. Not sure what at the moment. One thought was this putty stuff that sets extremely hard. But that of course could form cracks around it and back to square one. There must be some tacky sticky stuff to put in it. I suppose a sealant like Tigre sealant might do it? Not sure. Very open to suggestions!!!
I'll pop a pic up of it when I get round to it.
So with that potentially sorted out, I have also be reapplying and sealing this rubber seal which is glued to the body above behind the tops of the doors. The glue was dried out and completely use less. So now it is sealed once again.
Plenty more to do. I really must get round to sorting the idle setting this week. It is getting far too low.

You can get proper seam sealer such as Sikaflex, but even bathroom acrylic sealer will do for your needs.

Thanks Will. I'll do that then. At least it will be flexible then.

Warm Jaap!!! Sooooo nice.....You'll like it.
I even got a bit too warm.
first BBQ of the year too.
It always takes another pair of eyes to notice the problem.
but once I get the pic up you'll see it is easily dismissed. Pesky thing!

Re: Russ's 2.1 SED Auto
This is the hole,( the little one, not the big one surrounded by my blue tack worm!!) ......not a rust hole, just a gap that has been causing all the problems. It looks like it is meant to be there hence I dismissed it, but for some reason maybe a chunk of sealant fell off or it was never properly sealed from the start.....I doubt this however!
Anyway all sealed up now.

Anyway all sealed up now.

The wing channel should be covering that hole.
