Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Very nice. Very shiny. I am totally convinced your vinyl work on the trims is the way to go.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
I'm sure it will be a long term solution to the problem, time consuming though it may be to apply due to the complex and vast number of insdividual trims. Maybe only worth it if the trim is heavily faded, or the owner seriously sad.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
If what you have done Dean is considered sad, then I share your sadness.
Being a designer, I have this beady eye for detail and it's this sort of thing that annoys me, so I think I will certainly be using the vinyl on the door pillars at least. Fed of repainting and it chipping.
I'll need to know at some point where you got yours from.
On your silver foil stuff, have you used water and washing up liquid. Apparently the early stuff is better applied with water rather than heat. Just a thought.....

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
I got mine from my local sign shop, it was £10 for a massive sheet, I thought it was 3m products but its not, Neil if your reading this I will check after I've got the little one in bed, its sign writing vinyl number 7, will check on the manufacturer but I would think any vinyl would do the job.
Russ I've not tried with the foil like stuff again yet, its pretty difficult stuff but I may have more success with wrapping chrome vinyl, trouble is you need a big bit to do a narrow long trim like the bumper chrome.
I wonder if the clear offers much UV protection?
I'm at ease with the sadness now too to be fair, we all have to have a bit of pleasure in life and mine seems to be cars, moisturiser and vinyl...................

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
I would agree about the vinyl chrome. 3M is meant to be the best and long lasting. It also has air channels in it to reduce bubbles and make it easier to stick on. I can imagine the amount of waste though on the chrome trims....
But that's cheap for what you got and how good it looks.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
I'm not sure how expensive the channel stuff from 3m is, some have micro perforations that let the air pass through but that's only really needed for doing massive areas.
I will say though that the clear stuff is not as easy to put on as the black, it doesn't stretch much at all, the black is like cling film in its stretch.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
I think it's about £50-60 quid for not a lot. But then if your only doing small areas and not whole cars then it's okay ish. But if you can get something as good for cheaper why not.
Interesting about the stretchyness of both vinyls.
